My daughter just got accepted into the Digital Media program in the School of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning. Stats were 3.45 GPA (unweighted), 4.0 weighted, and 3.66GPA in 15 credits of actual college level courses.

taxguy, although you might've preferred arch, congrats~
Did your daughter receive a letter regarding architecture? WHen did she receive it?? according to the website, they have not even uploaded my application and i don't know what's wrong.

Congratulations. If my d likes DAAP for interior architecture and applies, I know who to call for advice...

PS. Now that I found the Cincy site, I see that taxguy is the expert.

PPS. My d is top 10% & uwGPA of 3.88 (taking lots of AP courses), so based on all my readings of your threads, she would have a good chance for DAAP .

Daaaad, based on what you told me, she should be a shoe in. They want a minimum of 3.75 GPA or top 10% for early admission, which usually represents the bulk of those who are admitted.
Also, read my "Overview of the University of Cincinnati" found at the top of this forum. It consists of two parts plus some additional miscellaneous observations. It should answer a lot of your questions

Bneg, actually, my daughter NEVER wanted architecture. She wanted either graphic design or digital design. She didn't get her acceptance letter yet since it went out yesterday. She did, however, get an email form the assistant dean of the department noting her acceptance. If you are looking at the web site for information, I think it currently has a problem. You might want to call them up.

Although it is hard for me to believe it, they must accept people by department.

congrats. so what does she think of uc now?

She is EXCITED. I'm the one who still likes the school and still think that they operate in a funky manner.

Taxguy, I am so excited for your D. I thought that you said on another thread that she had been denied so I am doubly happy. Is she going to the Cincinnatus competition in Feb?

My S is going with my H, it's one of his top choices but he has no idea of where he wants to go.

Do you have any idea of what off campus housing is like? I think that the campus is nice and we liked it but I am a little worried about off campus housing.

Again, I thought that she had been denied to UC and I was unhappy about that but am so happy that she was accepted. Does she have other acceptances or is this the first?

deb922, she was rejected from DAAP. This was noted on both the web site and by letter that I am looking at right now. Thus, this acceptance is bizarre. I guess each department accepts and rejects separately.

We liked the on campus housing. I am not sure that I want my daughter living off campus though.

Congrats on her acceptance!

Just a word to the other interested people, APPLY EARLY. Due to a mishap, they didn't receive my transcript until after architecture was fulll; though I was accepted to the school(and they've invited me to come up to compete for scholarships w/ $5k/year garaunteed) I didnt get into architecture. APPLY EARLY AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE EVERYTHING, they didn't notify me until it after architecture was mostly full.

Yargg, you raise a good point, which is applicable to all schools. ALWAYS call the schools to make sure that they have received all of your materials. This should be listed at the top of CC forums. With schools like UC with rolling admissions, doing this early is even more crucial.

did she accept? my son is heading to the DAAP next sept - ID trans track - and is jumping out of his skin with excitement. We're just as excited and are very impressed by the campus, programs, facilities and the administration. I note them specifically because they (DAAP, Admissions, Housing, Cincinnatus)have been responsive, helpful and organized in every meeting and phone call. Thanks for all your input on this site.

S

Hardknox, we are still awaiting decisions on the Cincinnatus, CMU and RISD. However, I believe that Cincinnati is her front runner unless we get some new information on other schools that we like.

However, good chance she will go there and meet your son.DAAP isn't that big. The kids know each other.

so far they've been the least responsive and organized...

bneg, actually we thought Cincinnati was very organized and responsive. Certainly, we were impressed with the organization at the Cincinnatus Competition. The DAAP school also seems to have its "act together" when they hosted some events. I can't speak for the rest of the university, however.

that's quite surprising!! The entire admissions process with UC was a complete waste of time~~

bneg, oh? What about their admission's process stood out for you as a waste of time that other schools didn't do?

At least from my observation, the only thing that Cincinnati did that was overly funky was to require all applications be completed and sent in by October 1. This is a very, very early deadline compared to other schools. However, other than this deadline fiasco, I didn't notice anything overly strange or time wasting about their admission's process.

On my first visit, they seemed to avoid my questions. I wanted to know about how much students took classes outside of DAAP, travelled, etc. and the admissions person (not even an actual member of the faculty) redirected it into COOP, which she did with EVERYthing. Yes, I know coop is wonderful, but I wanted to know about some other things. They were organized for me as far as admissions went for me, and the Cincinnatus was very well organized, but I was sorry that my first real meeting with faculty and students of the arch. program came at such a late date (february) I had already met one-on-one with faculty in the same department at other schools and had all of my questions answered and the schools was just about as big. Still, I have found that people either love the UC/DAAP thing or can't stand it. It just isn't for me, but I know people who love it. I do think they are relatively organized for such a large school with such a high demand, though.

oops, I wasn't notified of your post through email taxguy...U cin had confusing requirements (an essay that was required in 2005 and then suddently no more?), a counselor report that only required info that they can get from a transcript, losing my SAT score report, losing my admissions letter, my online decision is still: "we have not processed your application electronically, please wait two to three days", not letting me apply for housing online, sending two scholarship invitations and was going to send a third but emailed me and said I have not given them an address, ignoring nearly all my emails except for one very kind lady whom I only contacted by accident...
