My daughter wants to apply to the Journalism and Communications School at University of Florida

My daughter wants to get into the Journalism and Communications Department at the University of Florida/Gainsville. Would it be easier/better to apply undecided to University of Florida/Gainsville , take courses in the communications school, and then declare a major after freshman year? I understand the College of Journalism and Communications is very competitive to get in but is it even harder to transfer into the department after taking courses and proving yourself ?

First, UF doesn’t consider your major in freshman admissions. Pick whatever major you want…if she picks Journalism, it will not impact her chances at admissions.

If she does decide to enroll as “exploratory”, she shouldn’t have any issues getting accepted into the college, as long as she has the basic grades required. UF students have a much easier time getting into the college, vs transfer students.

Good Luck!

Thank you Gator88NE! Your answer was extremely helpful. It’s my daughter’s first choice! We are from NJ and after we visited, she just knew this was the school for her. It appears she has the GPA to get in but we don’t know what her Act score will be so we are keeping our fingers crossed! She takes the test this Saturday. Thanks again and Go Gators!
