She has 2380 in SAT 1 and GPA of 3.8. She plays softball for her school and member of two clubs. What are her chances to get into an IVY league school.

He has a good SAT score and GPA. It now depends on her essay’s and everything but I think a pretty good chance
Wishing her luck.

Her SAT is really great, good enough for ivies, definitely, but her EC’s are lacking severely in leadership positions unless she is captain of the softball team or president of a club. I don’t think she has enough volunteer work, either, unless she does volunteer and you just haven’t written it down. But you never know, she just might get in, ivies don’t really have any pattern when they pick students to be accepted.

Thank you for the encouraging words. This forum opened our eyes. She is planning to bolster her ECs this Spring and Summer. Hopefully she will have more ECs by the time she applies. What do you think of sumer internship on Capitol hill and also she plays for varsity softball team.

Is her 3.8 weighted or unweighted? Has she taken the most rigorous courses available? Is she in AP or IB classes? What is her class ranking?

As it stands, I don’t know if she has enough extra curricular activities to be a strong applicant. I think she should be looking a little lower. Definitely apply to some Ivy’s, but make sure she has other schools she would be excited to go to as well. An ivy isn’t the end all be all and she can get a great education at many schools.

An ivy is looking for continued involvement, leadership, and passion. Can she show that? Bolstering ECs this last spring and summer probably won’t help much- ivys want continued involvement and leadership, not just a few things tacked on right before applications are due. The summer internship would be great though.

She is taking 3 AP courses(English,Us history and calculus). She took only honors courses in 9th and 10th grades. She is planning to take 4 APs in her senior year. Her GPA is unweighted. She attended an introductory program in science and research at Stonybrook in her 9th grade summer and did 6 week internship in Neonatology at Georgetown University in her 10th grade summer. She loves kids and wants to be a Neonatologist. She works in a playroom of a health club with children. Is Georgetown a high reach or low reach for her?.

Low reach. Just remember that, especially for pre-med, not getting into an Ivy isn’t the end of the world.

The summer programs definitely add more depth. I think she would have a chance, and I agree that georgetown is a low reach. However, I also agree that not getting into an ivy isn’t the end of the world, especially for premed. She should go somewhere where she won’t acquire too much debt, because med school will be expensive.

Also, what is the program that she did last summer? If you don’t mind sharing, it sounds very interesting and I may want to apply :)

It is a rotation in the neonatology unit at Georgetown hospital. It was six week long. You start at 7.30 AM and do rounds with faculty. You get to hang around after lunch and get to learn from residents and students.

How did she get it?

You can call Georgetown and apply thru their internship program councellor.
