My Decision Is Taking a Toll on Me! PLEASE HELP!

Endicott College is in Beverly Massachusetts a beautiful town right on cape Ann. It is approximately 20 minutes from Boston, a place where I have envisioned myself always going to school. It has a decent business school but is not renowned for it. Average GPA of a 3.1/3.2 Sats around 1100. Acceptance Rate 40%. At Endicott I would also be on the soccer team something I have been doing since I was 2 years old and would also have the opportunity to play with kids I have been playing with since I was 14. I went for an overnight and loved the school and seemed to fit in well. Endicott did not give me any grants but If I choose to go there I was told they will Match Siena.

Siena College is in Loudonville, NY about 5 minutes outside of Albany. It was my reach school and I was accepted. It is a good business school with a great finance department much better than Endicott's and on the average is much more well known. Average GPA is a 3.5 with SAT's of 1150. The students there predominately are from instate (83%). I am from CT. Also It is a Jesuit Catholic school so I am not sure if there is really a big social scene. I would not have the opportunity to play soccer there, but it is a Diviois 1 school with a great basketball program and I have always dreamed of going to a school where I could watch D1 Basketball. Siena offered me a 5,000 scholarship.

My Parents are pushing me towards Endicott because they feel i like it better and will be happier there. But I'm not sure if they realize that Siena is a really good school. Endicott has grown in the past 5 years, but it is not at the level Siena is.

SO WHERE DO I GO?!?!?!?!? AHH

My guess is that you are worried about the social aspects, ie, either being with the soccer team you have known for years as opposed to being an outsider in a Jesuit catholic school with mostly instate students, yes or no?

Personally I think you should go to Endicott…you loved the school, seemed to fit in well, they’ll match Siena if you go so money if the same, you’ll be able to play soccer which you’ve been doing since you were two (and I assume want to continue with?). It’s really your choice, but they’re both good schools. You just need to decide where you’ll be happiest, because if you’re not happy then it’ll suck no matter what “level” the school is on.

^ yes this is my biggest thing. Its 83% instate at Siena and only 45% at Endicott. I’m worried that the social scene at Siena will not be as active as Endicott. Also being closer to boston vs albany. And I am a huge Red Sox fan, and my cousin who is a Huge yankees fan is at Bentley and he said its one of the hardest things he has to deal with. When you wants to watch the yankees games nobody wants to watch with him. So theres a lot of things that concern me. My family tends to believe I am overthinking it.

Im just all confused lol.

Don’t worry about not fitting in, you’ll be fine. Particularly with baseball games. New York is a split state, lots of Mets fans that sympathize with Sox fans too. Go Sox!

I get mixed reviews from everyone. Half the people say go to endicott, half the people say go to siena! ahh

bump…

You wrote:

“I went for an overnight and loved the school and seemed to fit in well. Endicott did not give me any grants but If I choose to go there I was told they will Match Siena.”

As a parent, I couldn’t ask for anything more for my S or D. Don’t agonize, go with your gut. It’s not like Endicott is your “I didn’t get in anywhere I wanted to” school. One caution: make sure they put the match commitment in writing before you sign on the dotted line.

The difference in academic quality between Endicott and Siena is negligible. Everything points to Endicott for you.

Have you stayed overnight at Siena?

Keep in mind that New York is a much bigger state than Massachusetts, so the in-state comparisons aren’t quite apples to apples.

I have chose endicott college!

Are you going to college to play soccer or get a good education? That isnt being smug, its the facts as you presented them. I dont know about Endicott. I do know about Siena. Siena is not Jesuit. Its Franciscan. Its a fine school. And has an excellent track record for graduate schools and job placement.

Whether you are Catholic or not is no difference. There will be religious people at Siena, but not everyone. You can choose a spiritual experience or choose to be completely secular. Its up to you. You will be required to take a few theology classes but they are always survey courses and often to introduce you to other religions and historical events, and are NOT doctrinal in nature. Nobody is going to try and convert you.

I would pick Siena, but that is me.

Unless you really do want to go to college to play soccer and end up in the MLS league.

I am CERTAIN they have club sports at Siena and those include soccer and you can have fun, play competitively without the pressure.

If you play intercollegiate you are GONE A LOT. Doing homework on a bus. I know this for a fact from friends of my kid.

Think about that.

I would pick Siena.

THINK AGAIN>

Endicott sounds like a perfectly reasonable choice.

I visited Siena again and felt like I couldn’t see myself there. I was emotionaly wanted to go to Endicott but the education factor was holding me back. After talking to many people including Guidance Counselors and admissions people at both schools I was informed that the difference between schools academically was not that great by everyone I asked.

BTW thanks for everyone’s opinions.
