Im a current HS Senior and i have a bit of a problem on my hands... i don't have a SSN. Because of this, i am forced to apply to my 1st choice school, Upitt, as an international student. here are my options, assuming i get in.

A) Go to Upitt and receive No financial Aid what so ever.

B) go to community college for a semester, after which i will have my #, and apply for transfer to Upitt.

If i don't get in, here are my choices

A) go to community college

B) Gap year

Im going to be majoring in Neuroscience and plan on getting a MD/Phd from a joint program, if that factors in at all. would going to community college hurt me, or could i actually get stuff done there and transfer credits? would a gap year be better then CC for a year if i wanted to get into Med school? If i did take a gap year, id be doing things to up my Med school chances during it.

Definitely gap year...you could do some college prepatory courses for the time being. Dunno about those for neuroscience, but youll get help selecting them by some of the other folks around here!

well, im suppose to have my SSN by the time the school year ends, so i don't need to worry about acquiring it, i just have to wait. Another choice i forgot to mention is going to Rutgers, if i get in, which i think i will.

no, but its is less, so it would be easier to pay for, since i am a resident of NJ.

"
SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

To be eligible to receive Federal and State funds, each student must provide a valid Social Security Number (SSN). The FAFSA verifies that the given student’s SSN is correct and that the SSN corresponds to the given student’s name and birth date.

If there is a discrepancy in the student’s information, the FAFSA will indicate that the SSN does not match to the information of the Social Security Administration (SSA). The student will be required to resolve any conflicts before receiving aid. "

Gap year, for sure. But make a legit gap –*do some public health work, or work in a lab, perhaps. Have you talked to an attorney (immigration attorney, perhaps?) about your SSN?

Work on SATs? i was considering doing them again because with my SSN comes a new name, a name that doesn't have 3 SAT scores attached to it already =O.
