I would like to major in United States History and Art History.
I am coming this summer to visit the campus , would it be beneficial to schedule myself for an interview?
Any help would be greatly appreciated :) And thanks in advance if any W&M Admissions people respond :)

Also I am applying to be on our Kinghts of the Roundtable which is a pretty exclusive organization and they go around to the elementary schools and talk to the kids and basically act like role models to the elementary students ^.^

Glad you’re interested in W&M. We’d definitely recommend registering for an on-campus interview during your visit this summer. It’s a great way to put your personality into the application. Assuming you’re someone who’s comfortable talking to someone about yourself (and of course you’ve never met this person before) it can be a great way to add some zing to your application.

We would definitely recommend some tweeks to your senior schedule. We’d recommend AP Calculus instead of AP stats and physics instead of genetics. There are a few benchmark courses we look for. While they’re not required, they are indicative of a challenging high school curriculum. Those classes are calculus, physics, chem, bio, and the fourth year of a single foreign language. It doesn’t look like you’ll be able to take French 4 (though we’d recommend French 3) so we’d definitely recommend physics in lieu of genetics and calc in lieu of stats (assuming you think you can be successful in those courses).

Definitely pursue the editor-in-chief position. It’s a significant leadership role and the Committee appreciates that.

Also, if W&M remains your top choice, consider early decision. It’s easier to stand out in a pool of 1,100 compared to a pool of nearly 13,000.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply  . I would do Calc but it is only AP and I am not a person who is very strong in math , which is why i’m not taking it since I know it would be too much for me to handle and keep up my other grades as well. Would that be something that I would want to mention on my application? With Physics , I was thinking of it but I wasn’t quite sure since from what i’ve heard is that it is a very math heavy course, but I was going to talk to my counselor to see what she thinks.
I really appreciate your comments  and i’m really looking foward to visiting in the summer!

historygirl, we definitely don’t recommend you take a course in which you don’t believe you’ll be successful but keep in mind that most of our applicants will take calc, physics (or an AP Science such as AP Bio or AP Chem) and the fourth level of a foreign language. As those are some of the most rigorous classes a student can take in high school we recommend students pursue as robust a schedule as possible.

We look forward to your visit this summer

Thank you so much for answering me , I really appreciate it :). I talked to my counselor and we did decide that I should be in regular physics and i’m looking into doing french 3 at our local community college during the summer. Your responses have been really helpful and thank you for taking the time to answer :)

That sounds like a great plan especially if a summer community college course could set you up to take French 4 during your senior year!
