My dream school right now is Fordham University and I'm really stressing about it!!!!

I am currently working on my essay(s). But I would like some feedback on what my chances are based off of my qualifications so far:

I go to an All Girls College Preparatory High School.
My high school does not rank (only the top 10%- which I am not).
My average is still a 4.0.
Highest SAT so far: 1770
Highest ACT so far: 24

I plan to take both tests again, possibly even a few subject matter tests. But I would like to know where my standing is so far when it comes to applying to Fordham.

I’m really looking into the Business School as well and I know they require a SAT match score around 680 but I don’t know if the rest of my application/resume/ transcript will help make up for it.

Please be honest, I’m more than worried about this, anything helps!

Thank you and have a nice day.

You will have a better shot if you don’t apply to business. But try and retake the ACT

There are other universities similar to Fordham that you should consider adding to your list. Decide what you like most about it – is it the location in NYC metro? Then look at other colleges in that area. Is it the Catholic affiliation? Then research Catholic universities around the country – there are so many good ones with beautiful campuses and strong academics. Is it the style or beauty of the campus? Then search for articles on “most beautiful college campuses” and see what other places come up. Is it an academic program there? Search for similar programs elsewhere.

Fordham has become rather competitive, so try not to fall in love with one university only. It’s better to fall in love with all the places you apply – and to do the research to find those places to apply to in the first place.

Apply to several “Fordham-like” places that have the features you like most, with a range of acceptance chances from safety to reach, and make sure that you can also afford them. That way you will be happy whether you get into Fordham or one of your other choices.

My Evaluation Form for Student’s on College Confidential:

GPA: You’re GPA is “perfect.” However, your acceptance will largely depend on the rigor of your courses

SAT/ACT Scores: The scores you presented are low. Using one statistic, the average DENIED SAT from Fordham score is 1820 (26 for the ACT)

SAT II Scores: N/A

Rigorous Courses?: N/A (colleges look a lot at rigor, a 3.5 GPA with all AP’s is better than a 4.0 GPA with all college prep classes)

AP’s: N/A (AP scores have little effect on admissions)

EC’s: Above Average (You’re activities are very good. They are normal)

Volunteer/Work: Good

Recommendations: N/A

Awards: Average, nothing amazing (I do not usually expect students to have any unique awards)

Essays: N/A

Fordham U: Based on your EC’s and volunteer work, I believe you can get it. However, your SAT/ACT scores weigh you down a lot.

Advice: Improve your ACT/SAT and ensure that you have a rigorous course schedule. If you do this, then I believe you will boost your chances by a lot.

Other Comments:

I never really consider NHS an EC because soooo many people have it. I have seen it so much on applications that it lost its value to me.

I evaluate people brutally, mostly from an Ivy League perspective. However, I also try to be accurate and answer your questions as best as I can! Feel free to ask me anything! Questions and comments are always welcome! Good luck and have a great day!

Prep for act and sat to improve your odds. Since you attend a day school I assume you have course rigid so try to get at least a 26-27 through prep. It’s very hard to improve that much so follow the advice in#2.

I agree with others that your test scores are low, especially the ACT. What was the CR + M breakdown on your SAT? Did you break 600 on each of them? How many times have you taken each test? I’m assuming you’re registered for the Fall tests (ACT - Sept, SAT - Oct.) - You might also consider registering for Nov. SAT as a back-up in case you’re not happy with October scores. Was it a timing issue on the ACT? (i.e. you couldn’t finish each section) Or an accuracy issue? You should study for the SAT - assume you’ve bought the Blue Book. You can also sign up for online review course with College Board where you can do practice sections/topics and tests online.

Fordham is a fantastic school. Have you visited and expressed interest?? Good luck.

WhiteGhost 26, I really appreciate your full and comprehensive report of my information, I just forgot to include my multicultural background (filipino and white) as well that I might apply for their Voice program, so I don’t know how much that will improve my chances. Many thanks.
