I live in California and it is my absolute dream to go to UC Berkeley. Does anyone think I have a shot at getting in? I really messed up in my first semester of junior year but it was because I went through a really rough time in my life. Is that something to write about in your personal statement? I just don't want it to seem like I'm making excuses for my grades. I am the president of a club, have a job, have done 100+ hours of community service, participated in leadership academy every summer, and have an internship.

I know it's never good to gather my hopes for just one UC but I'd have to say that I would be extremely disappointed not getting in. I've wanted to go there all my life. If not UC Berkeley, could anyone tell me where they think I have a shot at getting in? Perhaps UCSD, UC Davis, or USC? I'm not sure UCLA would be able to forgive one semester of poor grades. Just wondering if anyone feels that there is something more I can do to get into my dream school?

Your unweighed GPA appears to be 3.36.
Your weighed GPA is approximately 4.0
Your SAT score is average for Cal.

I’m sorry to say but you’ll need very compelling essays and a very high rank (showing Cal your HS has grade deflation) in order to get in. I assume you are not ranked in the top 10%.

Cal - Reach
UCLA- Reach
USC- Low reach
UCSD- High match
Davis/Irvine/SB - Matches
