I wanted to know what I would need to get into Stanford, I'm currently a Sophomore and my dream has always been to go to Stanford. I have a GPA of about a 3.9, and this year I am planning on doing loads of volunteer work such as: working at a children's hospital, ASAP(tutoring) & trips to Dominican Republic to help children in need. And as for EC's I will be doing MUN & I might join the school play. I was wondering what else do you guys think I need to go to Stanford? Any specific things you think might help? I would like to major in psychology. Also what other universities in California would you suggest I apply to and why? Thank you so much !

There is no “specific” thing that you need to do.

First of all, you need to make sure you’re academically qualified. If your GPA is unweighted, then a 3.9 is good. You need to take either the SAT or ACT, and score extremely well. For the best chance, you should aim for at the very least 2250 on the SAT and a 34 on the ACT. You also need to be taking the hardest courses that are available at your school.

In terms of ECs, you need to figure out what you’re passionate about. Unless you are a SUPER volunteer and its your absolute number 1 passion, don’t spend too much time on it. Your ECs right now are weak, to be frank. Having just MUN and volunteering isn’t going to cut it. The good thing is that your only a sophomore. Find out what you love to do this year and do it. Join a club. Become a leader. Start your own club. And devote your time. Thats what you need to do.
