My EC's?

Last year I came to the conclusion that my activities really are not sufficient. I've tried to make some changes, but I'm still not sure whether this is considered enough of a commitment. So can anyone tell me whether this is enough activities, of a good quality, and, if not, how I can improve on them?

9th grade:
Art club
Quiz bowl (JV captain)
Volunteering at the public library during the summer

10th grade:
Literary/Art Magazine
Theater club (painting set)
Quiz bowl (varsity)
Volunteering at the elementary school library
Helping elementary kids learn to swim
Fundraising for kids in rural India to go to school
Service trip to a school in rural China over the summer

Hopefully a summer job/internship

Hopefully getting into art honor society, science honor society, and NHS

As you can see, there is no real leadership, 'prestigious' clubs like MUN, no sports, etc. Will any of this hurt me when applying to college?

Quiz bowl looks really good. Short service trips aren’t worth the money (screams privilege, not dedication)… You need to find a focus. What interests you?

Also, there’s no such thing as a “prestigious” high school club…they’re all the same. What matters is the amount of leadership and dedication you show.

crosscountrycrew: I have more than one interest. I like art and working with little kids, and really enjoy quiz bowl. Does that count?

That’s cool. Ever thought about teaching kids art?

Ohhh… that would be cool. Except I have no idea where i would go about doing that. Thanks for the idea!

Maybe talk to an after school program about starting an arts and crafts club with the kids to meet every Wednesday for example

Ok, thanks for the help!

Or start your own arts program. There’s a girl in my area who did something similar, and she was very successful with it. PM me if you want more details.
