My EFC wasn't 0, will this effect my grants and scholarships?

Can you look down south at colleges then? I know Georgia has some very inexpensive programs.

Look at Ramapo and Rowan though - both have Cost of Attendance (COA, includes everything like books, personal expenses etc) of about $28,000 a year. Bloomfield COA is $43,000 and looking at the students Bloomfield admits, Bloomfield is a much less competitive school. Why pay so much more for a lower quality school?

Don’t know your stats, but Rowan gives merit aid and there is a clear chart of how much on their website.(below, per year for 4 years). Ramapo also gives merit, they offered my student $10,000 a year for 4 years.

SAT Range* Scholarship amount range**
1,500-1,600 $10,900-$21,800
1,400-1,499 $10,400-$20,800
1,350-1,399 $9,000-$16,000
1,300-1,349 $8,500-$13,500
1,250-1,299 $4,700-$7,400
1,200-1,249 $2,000-$4,000
1,150-1,199 $2,000

And not to stress you out further, but where are you planning to live during winter/spring/summer breaks if your mom moves down south? Make sure you add travel expenses several times a year to get down there if you don’t have anyone here to stay with. Lots of kids travel home for holidays and breaks, but it isn’t free

Best of luck!

Bloomfield College is on this list:

It sounds like you are clueless about what is going on. If you are definitely attending that college, get yourself to their FA office and talk to them about your situation. There is NO WAY on this Earth someone in your situation can be expected to rack up $20K+ loans per year.

Several note “exceptional need students”.

If your mom moves to another state…will you still have instate status in NJ?

@Rdtsmith Yeah, I’m starting to realize that. Social work/human services is the only career I can see myself doing(I literally have no interest in anything else)but after doing more research I’m realizing its not worth the hassle. Now I don’t know what to study…

@NJRoadie My stats aren’t great which why I’m going to Bloomfield. I was able the get a presidential scholarship of $16,500 every year with a 2.7 un-weighted GPA and and 1,000 combined sat score. I know its not the most competitive or well respected school out there, but there are things I do like about the school. Plus i believe school is all what you make of it. And I planned on just driving down to her on breaks.

@thumper1 I would imagine so. I never moved out of the state so I’m not too sure

Does anyone know if I could go back into my fafsa and add another school?? I submitted it about a week ago but I just applied to a school today and want to see if I have a chance of getting a good amount of aid this late in the game.

Yes, you can. Just enter a “correction”. Look for this:

You can also:
View or Print your Student Aid Report (SAR)
Make FAFSA Corrections to make a change, add a school, or transfer IRS data into your FAFSA
View Correction History to view corrections made to your FAFSA

You can still study social work if it is your passion. You may just have to be creative. Other friends in that field typically start at a community college and working on the side and then moving on from there. You definitely don’t want to saddle yourself with debt! I would even go as far as asking others in that field what path they took. You may find a common way to get there.
