My Emerson Audition

Okay, I just auditioned for Emerson yesterday for their MT program, and I wanted to share my experience for someone who is waiting to audition. I got to my where I was supposed to be auditioning about 30 mins early. I wore slacks and a nice dressy top. Do not bring a resume with you or a headshot. You will be asked to take one when you get there. It turned out the person who was the 'check in person' was also the auditor because I had an out of Boston audition. He was very very kind, and I even made a joke about wanting his arm in my headshot; he laughed kindly. After everyone arrived for the audition, all of the MT auditioners, about 10 in all, were led into a different room. We set up chair and had a brief Q&A asking him all we wanted to know about the program, etc... After that we did the dance audition first. It was essentially easy, which is saying sometime because I DO NOT dance, granted there were still some parts that were difficult. He then, used our session to teach us. Let me just tell you, he was so informative and inspiring that it will be very difficult for the other universities to beat him. I've been in plays for the past five years, and I learned more for him in that hour than I did in all five years. After we danced, we started our monologue or song. You got to pick when you went and etc. I walked in told him my name again, and he told me to decide which piece I wanted to start with. I went to sing, and I messed up. We stopped the music because literally I blanked. He was SUPER SUPER kind, and I honestly think I'm doing him justice. He was actually trying to calm me down:) I swear he was wonderful. I went to sing again and ONCE again I FLUBBED the lyrics. We tried once more and it was like a charm. I did my monologue for him and he gave me some tips. Here's my suggestion to EVERYONE auditioning for Emerson.
-Be you 100% that's what they're looking for. They are trying to see if YOU are a good fit for them. It's not about one thing or another.
-They know you're nervous, so chill out and be calm. I KNOW I KNOW it's waaay easier said then done, BUT trust me. I think my FLUBBING of the lyrics was definitely a nerve kind of thing.
-They don't want you to mess up, as I mentioned before, he was SUPER kind. He was trying to get me to relax.
-From the words of my auditor, "Your job is not for you to impress me. Just do you and let me see who you are."
Overall, I know we're in this world together. We may all be competing, but I believe in each and every one of you! Please never lose hope because you are destined to do amazing things! If you have an additional questions please feel free to PM or just straight up ask on the thread!
Much Love!<3
