My entire Community College schedule

It's time for me to register for Fall classes. I am just checking with you guys if this schedule makes sense. Also my overall Community college plan.

My major is Aerospace Engineering
The schools I want to attend: Stanford/Caltech/MIT (impossible? I haven't looked into them, but I can dream), UCLA
The schools I wouldn't mind attending: UCSD, UCI & UCD(a lot lower than UCSD), Cal Poly SLO
Schools I haven't looked into but may/will consider: UCSB, out of state schools within the top 15 of my major.

I do plan to apply to a couple of schools as a sophomore for the fall and the rest as a junior in the winter. What are options for me for transferring in two years (very broad question... I know the stuff like less classes per semester and I'll be able to apply to more schools)?

I just checked right now unless I am wrong all of these schools accept applications for the winter: (i didn't check cal poly SLO or UCSB, I don't know about ?Caltech?), MIT, UCLA, UCSD (only w/ TAG), UCI (TAG), UCD (TAG)

As you can see three of those schools require TAG... So those are things to look for in my schedule to make sure I am completing that. Also I made this schedule with the intention of doing TAP. Is that a bad idea for an engineer if it may hinder may gpa?

Does this schedule make sense?
Things I noticed were, my last fall semester seems way easier than the other semesters, also it doesn't matter that I won't have taken physics for half a year right? I fulfill TAP? Should I attempt to fulfill TAP since I am in Engineering? I fulfill TAG?

your summer 2008 is way too hard

I agree with crazykumar. Three classes in the summer? That does seem kind of crazy.

not only that but he’s taking some very challenging courses…calc 1 and calc 2 in the same summer? have fun with that!

That is actually an overload for summer 2008. You have to get it approved by the counselor. It is all up to you if you want that many classes. Just be warned that it will be hard.

Don’t you have to take Calc 1 first in order to take Calc 2??

I don’t think you can take it at the same time, unless you are just trying to review high school calc class.

yeah i remember he said he took calc at CSUF while in high school…but he could be taking calc 1 for the first session (half the summer) and calc 2 the second session if your CC’s summer session works like that.

Oh I see.. now that I think of it, that could work if he works hard.
Last summer I took Calc1, Econ1, Econ2, and English-Critical Thinking course, and it wasn’t too bad. I don’t know about Physics, but 2 calc classes sound manageable.

well the norm seems to be two classes for the summer…i’ll be taking art history, cultural anthro, and english 2 online for my first classes at CC this summer so we’ll see how that goes…

ok let’s see, i am the same major as you, got into UCLA/UCB, still making up my mind about where im going. it’s good that you have an ed plan but know that you will be making a lot of changes as your studies go in progress. why are you taking bio when you dont need it for AE, those summer classes seem too hard unless u believe u will get a 4.0 that summer. KEEP a 3.6 and up and you will be fine at the UCs. For MIT or any ivy league school, you might wanna have 3.8 and above

does TAG even work for engineering majors at UCSD, UCI, etc?

UCB doesn’t offer Aerospace am I right?
I believe Biology is a general ed requirement for Engineers(to fulfill biological science… I could take Anthropology or Envioronmental science I wanted the Honors course to finish TAP).
I don’t know why, but I forgot to tell everyone that I have already taken Calculus BC. I wanted to retake it over the summer. The two calc classes are at different time periods, one is in june the other is in july.

I completely forgot to ask about something I just realized two days ago. I looked at the schedule and it says for the physics classes labs required. For the other college in my district there is a separate course called 217L when you take 217 physics, but my college doesn’t ever offer 217L at my school. They do have this and thing added once a week that is like 3 hours. Does that mean that and thing is the lab? Are those usually another class or just 20 minutes afterwards with an extra 2-3 hour period?

Again, is TAP worth it for Engineers? and Again, do I fulfill TAG?

some colleges list labs separately, some don’t If it’s not, it’ll just be like lecture 12-1, lab 1:20-4 or something

No point in TAP whatsoever unless you are willing to go into another major that is in the college of letters and sciences in UCLA.

Another question- will you have 60 units?

I hope you realize all the TAGs differ slightly from school to school. (from UC to UC)

I can not tell you if you satisfy TAG - go get a sheet from your transfer center.

I took 14 units in one summer in three different sessions. One overlapped. & One class was online. If you’re dedicated, you can do it. It’s all in your head. I’ve found that I’ve learned really well in intensive summer school classes because you’re so focused and consumed in the coursework.

I have a question…
Do you guys know if I can switch up Philosophy with Sign Language? (my sister says that class is way easier)
I think I have decided not to do TAP.

I suggest you take a logic course. Symbolic logic.

You need to learn this at one point for engineering. The switches, true/false, if/then and whatnot. In my logic classes, I typically find half of them full of engineering majors.

I’m going to bet that you’ll like it. My mother is an EE and she knows quite a bit about symbolic logic.

You’re going into ME/Aerospace? That’s cool, I know a prof in that department . The head of Space department is a really nice, weird guy. They really love their students and their research. I say UCLA is a great choice for you. =)

I actually took 150AF and 150BF last summer at fullerton college.
150AF was a breeze since I had a good professor (got an A) but i had a crap professor for 150BF and got a C. Just letting you know its ALOT of work and homework should be done EVERYDAY. You’ll definitely fall behind if you dont do hw. Another thing is that class each day is 3.5hrs long…its definitely a draggg.
If you dedicate enough time you should be able to handle it.
