my essay is 1129 words...

Hello,

I have no idea how to cut down my essay, it is about my life story. I had my AP english teacher read it and she loved it. However, the common apps wants between 500 or so words. Should i just keep my essay or follow the directions? My essay is really good, if anyone wants to read it .. i can send it to you.

HELL TO THE NO! cut the essay down. if i were the college reader there’s no way in hell i would read the essay of a kid who ddin’t follow instructions. also, ur essay cant’ be that good if u made it more than 1100 words. the more words, the less effect ur experience has on the reader.

im having the same dilemma, mine is 1700 words, but thats the incredible rough draft, i was just spewing out what was coming into my head. i can defintly cut down at leasttttt 500 words. mine is about my life story also, i personally think that my essay needs the length to show the emphasis on all the oppressive forces that i came across(abuse, sister was involved in the wrong things and went to rehab, poverty, etc)

uhh no. the idea of the sucessful essay is to pick a topic and not meander off. pick the most difficult challenge and stick with it

Don’t write about your entire life story - focus on a specific aspect to cut it down a lot.
