My Experience at BSU

My daughter will be visiting tomorrow afternoon. She has an appointment scheduled with the Theater Department; my wife was specific that she wants to look at music theater but couldn’t find anywhere on line where it said music theater to make an appointment. Is that the way it works?

It’s awesome to hear that you’ve decided to visit! Did you talk to Andrea, our recruitment coordinator? She is the one who can give you the information on either Musical Theatre or can put you in contact with the Musical Theatre Option coordinator. Either way you will talk to Andrea tomorrow, and she will be able to get you the information you need!
If I don’t see you tomorrow- have a great visit!! :)

Taylor, we had a great visit today. My daughter, her mom and me met with Pete for about an hour then toured the facility. I had to come home early because of my bronchitis, but my daughter and wife are still there waiting to see Lend Me a Tenor! Very impressive program, definitely on the list. Plus since we only live an hour away we’d be able to come watch performances, not to mention in state tuition!

I didn’t see that you posted your first message yesterday! It’s a shame you couldn’t stay to see the show but I hope you feel better, I saw it tonight as well, and I thought it was hilarious! What did your daughter and wife think?

It’s awesome that you all enjoyed your visit; I had Acting 1 with Pete and I loved his class. That is so true as well, there are many students here who aren’t from far away.

We noticed that Taylor11 is a Theatre Ed major-----can you audition for any of the productions like BFA people can? Do you enjoy the Theatre Ed curriculum? My D is considering that major instead of a BFA. Thanks for any info you can provide!!

Hi momarmarino.
I am not a theatre ed major, so i cant speak to the nature of that major, but I do know that any and all students are encouraged to auditions for the productions. Hope this helps.

Momarmarino-

I am so sorry for the delayed response!

To answer your first question- I am definitely encouraged to audition for the productions. While performing is the BFAs’ major, everyone needs to know what it’s like to be in everyone else’s shoes in order to improve their own specialty.

As for Theatre Education- I LOVE it! I feel like I am getting a very well-rounded experience here; the curriculum is certainly challenging and allows me to grow and learn. I feel confident that I am receiving ample preparation for my major. The entire Department of Theatre & Dance at BSU is supportive, and I could not feel more at home in my specific option.

Do you have any specific questions about the Theatre Education option? I would love to answer them! Please feel free to send me a personal message as well!

How hard is the dance audition for musical theatre? I have no training and im worried I wont get it

Sallenjr my D is a freshman MT major at BSU. Of the three disciplines she was least experienced at dance vs. voice and acting. She said that the dance audition at BSU was one of the tougher ones she did last year but she was accepted anyway! What they do there is assess your abilities and then assign you to dance classes your freshman year that match your abilities. Some kids with a lot of dance are in a more accelerated class and some more at beginner level. So I would not let your relative dance inexperience deter you from applying there. My D absolutely loves the program and the people there.

Sallenjr, jeffandann is absolutely right! I am a junior musical theatre major at BSU as well as an employee in the main Theatre and Dance office. Our dance auditions are just for placement purposes and our faculty is fully aware that all auditioning students have wide ranges of dance experience. While you are saying this about dance, someone else is saying this about acting and so on. Have no fear! Our auditions are extremely welcoming and friendly!

Auditions are coming up!
November 9th is right around the corner!

How are you guys feelin?
