This is an old thread but I will comment in the event someone comes accross it seeking current info. My DD graduated from comm design in 2016, a very rigorous program for sure. Lots of projects, late nights and and tears. In the end she landed a great job within a month of graduating at a reputable advertising agency as an Art Director . She formed great relationships with the professors and did receive letters of recommendation. At the senior portfolio show professors assist in promoting your book and getting you job offers. Many students in her starting class either transferred on their own or were persuaded to transfer because their work was not meeting standards. If your work is not up to par you will have a lower chance of finding work upon graduation. She did not consider herself a top student but now at her job she is considered one of the better Art Directors in the office. What the professors expected of the students prepares them well for what is expected on the job. If you do not like the program, transferring to Newhouse is definitely an option. This major is not for those concerned with letter grades but quality of work. No one asked for her gpa during interviews. Ultimately you should choose the program that you do your best work in. Your portfolio should be amazing along with strong communication skills required to succeed in comm design and beyond. Hope this helps anyone seeking to make a decision on comm design.
