If your relatives aren’t planning on taking the building away, why would it help? Unless they are about to donate another building, in which case…

My first post was not in jest. Relations of donors do get special consideration. However, it’s not just an always and forever relationship. For a special consideration to take place, there is LOTS of communication between the family/foundation/endowment/wealthy donor and the college’s development office. Much is discussed – the relative strength of the applicant and yes, future donations.

Unless you had this talk w/dad or mom or grandpa back in September, you’re not being considered as a “developmental” admit. You’d know it if it were so. I’m guessing a relative or ancestor did donate significantly to Yale at one time. That’s fine but unless someone in your family decided to call in favors on your behalf, your app was evaluated equally like every one else’s. Since you’re asking here on CC, I naturally assumed that that conversation never took place. Large donors know they likely may have pull for some relations. But they also know when and when not to use that “pull”.

Your family’s donation to Yale, while appreciated, likely 99% isn’t being linked to your application.

T26E4, I understand that I sound pretentious and borderline stupid asking this question, so I understand your post. Just to answer your post, I’m actually meeting with my relative next week and he’s agreed to help me. The main reason I posted was because I’ve heard many stories or applicants with “Yale families” (legacy, donations, etc…) and good grades not get accepted.

In terms of grades, I go to a french school with an IB program.
I took my SATs in March and I think i got about 2100.
My GPA is 3.8 unweighed and 4.0 weighed (On a 4.3 scale, right?)
My ECs are pretty good, I’ve done summer cultural trips in Eastern Europe from summer of 05-07. A community service trip in Costa Rica in 08 and a community service trip in Tanzania in 09. This year I’m starting a foundation to raise money for the kids in Tanzania, I’m doing an internship at San Francisco’s mayor’s office (4 week), then an internship at a local lab (1 week).

Best of luck to you then. I assume you’re finishing your Jr. year?

Shoo, ■■■■■.

Sigh.

^ that was uncalled for. The OP is just trying to get some perspective into his/her situation.

I think you have a fair chance with your stats alone, and the donation may become that extra boost for your application. Keep up the good work! I don’t know how you’re going to make clear about your family’s contribution to Yale, but keep in mind your tone of voice when you do so.

“My family donated a building to Yale. How much does that help?”

lol

If this is legit… it helps a lot. I know someone whose uncles were the Beinecke brothers…

Actually, people who donate building to Yale are considered ORMs. You have a better chance if you do not donate the building and gain URM status.

Hi pvsheehan
I went to a french school too so I am so happy to see someone like me

with ur stats + donation…u have a good chance

Bonne chance !

if op is serious, they should know that they really screwed up on the title. if possible, step back, pretend someone else made this thread, and try to be an impartial, detached observer. are you finding it hard to tale this person’s question seriously?

Yea I really screwed up on the title… Is there a way to change it?

i just donated a multimillion dollar, anti gravity jet propulsion powered, FTL travel capable ship to YALE and got rejected

Hahahahaha.

I would say you’re in.

Serious question: Who the hell is ‘Jeffrey B.’ from post #2?

Jeffrey Brenzel, Yale’s Dean of Admissions

How big is the building?

a 1 bhk condo

does anyone know how I could fully use my connection? My connection says that he would support me but he doesn’t know what the best way would be. Is recommendation letter the only way I can let it be known?

there’s a place on the application for members of your family who are alumni. There’s also an additional info section of the application
