My family has a very low income, but I did not apply for financial aid...?

As an out of state student, will this still hurt my chances? My parents decided to retire early, so I do not require any financial aid, but I've heard that this may still hurt my chances. Is this true?

It will hurt your chances of getting financial aid, if that is what you mean. You won’t get any if you don’t apply.

Berkeley financial aid will probably be $22,000 short of meeting need for out-of-state students.

Sorry, my post might not have been very clear. I don’t need financial aid, but I’ve heard that a lot of the UC schools are admitting more students who are OOS for money. As my parents have decided to retire at an early age, my family does not have any income and is reported as so on my application. I was wondering if this will hurt my chances of getting in as an OOS because it will appear as if I’ll need financial aid when I really don’t?

I’m sure that if you didn’t apply for financial aid, they would assume that you are able to pay regardless.
