My farewell-to-chance-threads chance thread =)

Hey all.. I just wrapped up a big college tour that solidified my feelings about the whole process. So, faced with a surefire list and pretty much set-in-stone stats, I thought I'd turn to CC one last time. Are you guys up for chancing me once more?

So first off, I am...
- a fairly average middle class white girl
- an unenthusiastic resident of suburban Ohio.
- a rising senior at a fairly average public school.

My school...
- rarely sends anyone to top schools/schools outside Ohio.
- offers only 2 AP classes, and both are only offered senior year.

So keep all that in mind!

GPA: 3.957 UW. All A's and one B in Adv Precalc.
Rank: ~5/260.
I've taken the most rigorous curriculum.. although that means no AP's yet. ugh.

SAT: 2290 (730 CR, 760 M, 800 W/11 essay)
SAT IIs: 750 Lit, 780 Math 2

ACT: 34 (35E, 32M, 33R, 35S, 11 essay)
It's a 35 superscored if that means anything :-P

PSAT: 234.. so pretty much guaranteed National Merit semi-finalist.

Alright, the extracurriculars.

Public Forum Debate -- 4 years.
I'm on the Executive Board as a senior.. 2 time national qualifier, freshman and junior year. 3 time state qualifiers. Lots of local awards. This pretty much takes all my time in the winter/spring :)

Cross Country -- 4 years.
...And this takes all my time in the summer. 3 year letterman by graduation, because I ran varsity freshman/sophomore years and all seniors earn letters.

Quiz Bowl -- 2 years.
County champs and on the national qualifying team junior year.

Art -- 3 years.
I'm not an art prodigy by any means.. but I have my fun. I always win here or there in the yearly school show and I actually sold a watercolor to a law office this year for like $70 lol

Guitar -- 3 years.
I took up guitar as a sophomore on an impulse, fell in love, and I've been playing ever since then. Not like a pro or anything, but I do put time and effort in.

Oh and I almost forgot! School Newspaper -- 1 year.
See.. at my school you can only do the newspaper if you're in the newspaper class, and I never had room in my schedule for it until senior year! But I'll be pretty involved this year anyway..

The thing is.. I never really did any community service. I did a few hours in 9th grade at the animal shelter but it's almost too few to be worth mentioning, and that's about it. I don't really have an excuse for it, so at this point, it is what it is... :-/

SO that's that! I now have a complete, but small, list of colleges I'll be applying to!

Brown ED

Northwestern - Medill

Tufts

Boston College (my dad went here and they take legacy pretty seriously, I hear)

Stanford.. the only school I didn't visit so I don't know where to rank 'em.

But mainly I'm interested in my Brown chances. I am absolutely smitten with Brown and it would be aaamazing to get in there! So help a sister out?? Thanks loads!

You have great chances Brown ED.

You would be in at BC with no problem. Brown is tough, I think they will probably defer you and see how you do in some APs.

Well, I’m pretty much hoping against all hope for Brown, but I’d be perfectly happy at BC, too… thus the short list. Thanks to both of you for the insight though! :)

I think you have a very good chance at all of them, maybe stanford is a bit of a reach. You are in at BC especially with the legacy though, good luck!

Alright, thanks! Bump.

Any last thoughts?

With solid essays and recs, I think you have great chances for Brown ED :)
