My Father Has Been Laid Off

How do I approach this with the financial aid office?

Will they likely increase my grant money, or what will happen?

Write them an e-mail and ask to fill out a special circumstance form. You could also call.

As Taxi1113 said, contact the fin aid office ASAP … preferably talking to them on the phone because it’ll sound more sincere when they hear your voice … shows them that you really want to come here. Update them that your father has been laid off and your financial situation has changed dramatically since you applied for Fin Aid. They’ll understand, because this is something that is happening to people everywhere around the world. They admitted you, so they obviously want you to go there.

Sorry about your father getting laid off! Must be tough, and I wish you good luck!

Sorry to hear about your father losing his job. He will bounce back quickly. Take it from this HR dude…being laid off almost always leads to better career prospects.

As for Michigan, call them IMMEDIATELY. Tell them exactly what happend. Make sure you speak to an actual Financial aid officer and have your father next to you in case they ask for questions that you can’t answer. Be sure to take the person’s name and email address during the conversation because you will also want to shoot them a thank you email after the call and a follow-up email 2 weeks later.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Get in contact with UMich office of Financial Aid and fill out a special circumstance form. By doing this, you very well may be able to get some additional help. Good luck to you. ^^
