The Odyssey.

^^Hate, yes. Anyone who’s paid by the word is in serious need of editing.

Sorry, what? Lol…

Currently reading Plum Island. Nelson DeMille is my new favorite author. His plots are top-notch, and his witty sense of humor makes it that much more satisfying :D

^^Because the novel was serialized, Dickens was paid more the longer it went on. The book should have been edited.

^yeap! agree- ender’s game is really good

blood meridian hell ya banjoman

Tie between Anthem by Ayn Rand and Slaughterhous-Five by Kurt Vonnegut…

mickjagger, I for one liked Great Expectations.

Difference of opinions, I guess! I am looking forward to reading Slaughterhouse-Five. What background information do you have to know? I’m not much of a history buff.

Eh…not much. I’d say it’s important to realize that Dresden was essentially the cultural epicenter of Germany before it was nearly leveled by the Allied firebombing (massive numbers of bombs and napalm-like flammable jelly filled incendiaries were dropped onto it) during WWII. Oddly enough, the Allies didn’t even target the military sector of the city, choosing instead to slaughter thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians. Warning, this book may make you a non-patriotic pacifist.

how i love green eggs and ham.

I don’t know that that’s the case. Great Expectations is, in my opinion, his best work (although I haven’t read David Copperfield), and you never see anyone calling for Crime and Punishment or Madame Bovary to be edited, although they were also published serially

Jane Eyre

I’m a sap for all of C Bronte’s romances though. They’re all pretty similar actually lol. Oh, and she kicks Jane Austin’s ass

^^Yeah, well, *Madame Bovary/i is a great book which doesn’t go on about the stormy weather reflecting a sucky life or whatever.

I’m currently reading Madame Bovary. And currently finishing Great Expectations. I have to say, I’ve been trying to get through GE; it hasn’t been the most pleasurable read for me. But now at the end, it’s finally gotten a bit exciting!

*Harry Potter Series/i - I will fight anyone who hates on Harry Potter or calls it merely ‘a kid’s book’. Also the movies are CRAP compared to the books; I only watch them because I’m a hardcore fan; they omit literally 50% of the important stuff and only a few scenes are truly well done…

The Bartimaeus Trilogy - Great Story, amusing footnotes

Ender’s Game - Excellent, never really cared for the others in the series however

Brave New World - Brilliant

The Count of Monte Cristo - I liked the movie alot too despite the inaccuracies.

Lord of the Rings - Dense at times but overall is amazing

The Illiad

I, Claudius

Eragon, Eldest, Brisngr - I realize it’s stolen from Star Wars/LOTR but it’s still a very entertaining read.

Darran Shan Series - Really low reading level but I really liked it

I read the first sentence of The Illiad and found it difficult to understand, so I didn’t bother attempting to read the entire thing.

I have Brave New World! I will read it once I’m done with what I’m currently reading. What did you like about it?

^ The fact that it was written in the early 20th century yet it so eerily predits the direction that society has started to, or could, head. The implications of it are fascinating. Also it is very well written on the whole and, if memory serves, fairly short.

Good Omens!

It reminded me of A Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy with it’s amusing footnotes and whatnot.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I’m also a fan of the Harry Potter series.
