My final choice: Purdue vs U of Toroto - Computer Science

Hello!

I just got accepted into the U of Toronto - Saint George and Purdue University - West Laffeyete.

My major: Computer science

I'd like to receive some of your recommendations.

I am concerned about what I've read about the UoT: very hard, huge classes, not easy to get involved in the community, hard to get good grades. But I'm not sure about that being true.

I am from Ecuador and I'd love to live in Toronto. Laffeyete seems like a nice place but it's too small and not close to any major city except Chicago. However, I will definitely consider it if all they say about UoT is true.

Btw: Tuition costs aren’t a problem.

Bump…

If you are international, you should attend a college near a city but Purdue University also has very high number of international student. So, Purdue…

Thanks, another opinion?

U of T would be my recommendation. Very strong computer science program.

What is your goal after completing your education? Canada has much saner immigration policies than the US does, and it would be easier to get a permanent job there. If not-returning to Ecuador is your goal, choose a Canadian university. In the past Canada has also been more generous with work permits for students which would make it easier for you to get the internships that you need to develop your skills and earn money to help pay for your education.

Computer Science is difficult everywhere, so don’t turn down U of T just for that reason. The weather is pretty much equally awful in both locations. Toronto is a city with an international airport and W. Lafayette is a college town several hours from Chicago which would be the closest international airport. If you want the US college experience with sports, fraternities, etc. choose Purdue. If that isn’t what you are looking for, choose U of T.

Thanks a lot. I made up my mind.

I chose the University of Toronto, I love the idea of the american college experience, but definitely UoT seems like a nicer option.

University of Toronto is a better choice because eventhough Purdue has strong engineering program, it does not rank high in Computer Science.
