My final stats before applying EA/ED

Don't give up on UChicago. It's definitely a top-tier school, but it's one known to accept students with flawed applications if they have absolutely breathtaking essays. It might be worth a shot.

UCD safety 4 sure
Boston maybe safety

But even if he got into UChicago, I don't think he'd be able to survive it, to be honest, and I don't mean any offence at all.

Chicago is infamous for its rigorous curriculum. The guy has C's and D's all over his transcript - clearly his work ethic isn't all that solid. Of course, he can tell himself that once he gets there, he's gonna study like he's never done before, but trust me, old habits die hard...

Vehement -
I went thru the USNWR listing looking for schools with high admit rates, and % in top ten % of HS relatively low compared to SAT. This is kind of a weird list - there are others, but I have to do some work now:

Grinnell
Hampshire College (part of the 5 college consortia that includes Amherst, Mount Holyoke and Smith Colleges and the UMass Amherst).
Lewis and Clark
Reed

sparsely populated as Texas

obviously the scores are a fluke if you don't know that Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio are all in the top 10 largest cities in the US with Austin at 16 and El Paso at 19.

I have not the faintest idea how UC computes make-up classes in the gpa calc (average both vs. full replacement). But, assuming they give the transcript the benefit of the doubt, even with full replacement, Vehement's UC gpa for the application is 2.75 (all of the courses appeared College Prep, and I assumed that Multi-Media was UC approved). Thus, eligibility for UC is solely on testing. Without some sort of hook, even the mid-tier UC's are a stretch, IMO. However, perhaps a mid-tier might wait for first semester grades, and make a positive decision later.

bandit, first of all i don't see how knowing anything bout texas is relevant to the sat at all. secondly, i have only arrived in us for around 2.5years....also texas might perhaps has a few large cities but the state as a whole isn't that densely populated at all..

btw blue ty for calculating my gpa for me. did you count the us history as an a or a f btw? thanks

counted as an F, since the UC gpa that the adcoms will initially see is based on Soph & Jr years; however, specific schools have requested first semester grades prior to rendering a decision.

oh I am taking it in night school so it should be replaced.

Boston University of BC? Either way, neither is a safety, not even close. if you mean BC, it is a reach. And BU looks heavilly on GPA and rejects about 1/2 its applicants...Its a shame..your SATS are excellent, may I ask why your gpa is so low?

The excuse that you came to America only recently isn't that solid...and colleges won't give it a whole lot of weight, considering you still scored 700+ on your SAT critical reading and writing sections.

A paper clip could get into MSU. 30% of my graduating class will go there. Your in, especially if you are out of state.

That must be one smart paper clip ;)

thanks for the good news costco!

some more schools

penn state (smeal)

michigan (ross)

georgetown (mcd)

and ohio mom thanks alot for that list.

some of those really seem appealing...

bumpy bumpy bump

Congratulations on having the largest discrepancy between GPA and SAT scores I have ever seen! I wonder if you are extremely lazy, you are a natural test-taker, or your school is the hardest on the planet...or a combination of the three. Good luck, dude. Instead of retaking the SAT, why don't you spend your time on getting good grades these last few months?

back to the divorce thing.....i think u can give that as a reason but colleges wont cut u that much slack cause there are dozens if not hundreds of applicants out there with divorced parents pulling off high GPAs....divorced parents just arent that rare anymore

I am starting to do my homework already so I think ym grades will improve this semester. Assume I have a perfect gpa this semester, will it affect the outcome of my applications? (i will still do my hoework either way, no more slacking off) Haha and nah my school is not hard, we barely send 1-2 people to cal or ucla a year...

bumpy bumpy
