My first apush quiz

Hi ,

I got the grade back for my first apush quiz and I got a 8/10. I’m a little disappointed because I thought that I would do better. Does anyone know how I can improve quiz scores in the future? Aka how do I prepare for these apush quizzes? For this one I read the chapter and did review questions and watched videos on YouTube. Is there anything else I should be doing? I’m really upset right now.

Depends on the teacher, but my son said his quizzes were intentionally almost impossible to get 100% right. He didn’t do great on his first ones, but went on to get an A in the class and 5 on the exam.

I have the best teacher in the world who grades fairly and teaches well so I dont know what the problem is

My daughter struggled in the begging too. Like the above poster, she end up doing great in the class and the AP. What helped her the most with both euro and apush was to focus on the connections between the people and the issues being discussed. There are many issues covered in APUSH that are still relevant today and makes for very interesting conversation. Her teacher suggested we talk about it around the kitchen table at meal time and it really helped her, especially when it came to writing essays.

Written or multiple choice quiz? I remember my son not doing so well on multiple choice quizzes in APUSH as the answer choices were deliberately made vague. He did do well enough to get an A and a 5.

Try to take notes on the chapters-have a key theme or thesis and several points to back your thesis. My son’s APUSH teacher had the class do this for every chapter. It was an effective way of synthesizing the reading, especially since American Pagaent is a really huge book of 1200+ pages.

When my kid took APUSH 2 years ago, he and the entire class got 70s on their first test. Since we happened to have had our parental welcome back session right after the test, we got a little insight from the APUSH teacher. He said that since this was their first social science AP class, the students had to get used to the fact that the pace and level of difficulty would be apparent from the get-go and that it would take time for students to adjust to that.

I’m having trouble on multiple choice.

This isn’t my first history AP, I took AP world last year and it was okay; I got an A and a 4 on the exam. I just don’t understand why APUSH is harder for me than AP World.

@violinist018 MC for APUSH is pretty nasty in my opinion. I have a feeling that your teacher is using a test bank based on the textbook.

My son mentioned that for his APUSH class multiple choice tests were often regraded since the answer choices were vague enough that more than one answer could be correct.

I would get a Barron’s APUSH prep book to get some multiple choice practice.

Based on my experience with my own APUSH class, the questions are meant to be tough and you WILL get 8/10s on the material no matter how well you study. If that sounds like I’m discouraging you, I’m not. It’s good prep for the actual test, which I gotta say definitely helped me out when I finally took it.

Don’t base how easy/hard you think a class may be on one quiz.

If you wan to work to improve in the class, the best person to speak to would be your teacher (just be sure to frame it as your wanting to do your best in the class and not focused on grades)
