Hello. I'm sure many of you may say that I am overreacting, but I received my first non-A semester grade today. I just completed my 1st semester of sophomore year. Will this B+ hurt me greatly in my chances to get into an outstading college (Ivy level, JHU, U of Chicago, etc)?

Previous GPAS:

4.0000/4.7779

CurrentGPAS"

3.9743/4.8322 with an A would have been: 4.0000/4.8899

recently i got an B+ in math
i know this isn’t a big deal
but do colleges really look in deep at what classes you received a lower grade in?
for example, i wan’t to apply to a college that really emphasizes math, if I get A’s in math next year and on the AP or SAT’s, would they overlook this B+ in my sophmore

ughhhh omg. these frustrate me so much mainly because I know that your serious. Look, these were my grades throughout high school:
Freshman year: 1st semester - 4 As 3 Bs
2nd semester - 6 As 1 B
Sophomore year - straight As both semesters
Junior year - 6 As 1 B both semester (B in the same class both semesters too)
Senior year - 4 As 3 Bs (yes I slacked )

This doesn’t include my dual enrollment classes, where I have a 4.0 GPA, but really, look how many Bs I got. Occasionally, there was a story behind it and was never happy I got them, but look where I’m going to college. Just calm down and relax. you’re going to be fine.

ZZZWAP,i’m not an idiot. im pretty sure he’s serious. just cuz he has a low post count doesnt mean that he’s a ■■■■■. I’ve been on this thread for 4 years now (since my freshman year) and thought the same thing. He’s just naive, which is expected from freshmen/sophomores. I think youre way too haste. Many ppl think like this. That’s why there are so many threads on it.

Swim2, you went to Brown, not a top 10 college, therefore it’s not a college at all, therefore you’re proving the fact that if you get a B you’re screwed and are going to work for McDonalds.

I think you have a chance at Tunxis Community College in Farmington, CT. Keep in mind, I said a chance because if you don’t get in, I don’t want to hurt your feelings.

dude, philosophy, if u want to hve this argument, just PM me and try and keep up a decent rebuttal. considering the acceptance rate this year is predicted to be under 10%, i consider it to be a great college and one where a lot of ppl find prestige.
