My first Real, real chance thread

I have made a few other "chance threads" but they haven't been directly about my chances, so after coming up with my current list of Colleges I am applying to, what are my chances.

Colleges (In order of how much I want to go there):

Wharton (UPenn)
Yale
Cornell (AEM)
Harvard
Brown
MIT
UVa (with Echols?)
Virginia Tech (Safety School)

Here is my profile:

I realize the chances of getting into either of these schools is ridiculously low but in terms of early decision where do I stand a "better" shot with my current stats. I really like both schools and would be ecstatic to get into either one, I am trying to figure out where to apply early decision but am torn between the two.

Here is my profile if you want to call it that,

Gender: Male
Race: Indian
GPA: Projected 4.61 W, unweighted 4.0 (end of 1st semester senior year)
Rank: 3 or 4/596

SAT I: 2270 ( 770 CR, 700 M, 800 W) will take again to get up that math score
SAT II: Signed up for June exams in US hist. Biology, and Math II. Shooting for 760+ in all of them

Courses:
Toughest courses with the following AP's

Sophomore year:
AP Chemistry: 5
AP European History: 5
AP French Language: 3

Junior year:
AP Calculus BC
AP US History
AP Biology
AP English Language and Composition

Senior year:

AP Studio Art
AP Psychology
AP US Government
AP Computer Science
*Second Year Calculus

Research: As part of the Academy I am in I am doing a research project involving the Stock Market, developing a risk minimizing set of equations.

Extracurricular Activities:

Debate Team (4 years) Captain 2 years, Regional Finalist, 4th place in districts (09), 2nd place districts (10), various top 5 finishes in Local debate league tournaments. Does it matter that I am not competing at a national level?

Theater (4 years) Acting and Light Crew (2nd in district, 2nd in region, 8th in state for a one act play)

Scholastic Bowl (3 years) captain 1 year (district and regional champions)

National Honor Society (1 year, only allowed for seniors) Running for president, I think I can win.

Other ECs:

Football JV (2 years)-does JV make it weaker, i mean it was still a huge time commitment of 3+ hours a day and in the summer.
Varsity Tennis (2 years)
French Honor Society
Operation Smile

Comm. Service:
Volunteer for the summer reading program at library (50 hours)
Volunteering at an aquarium. (50-100 hours)

Work Exp.

Founded a clothing company, design and selling t-shirts, I think it is pretty unique

Worked as a graphic Designer for a local ad company one summer.

Will have an internship at a investment group over the summer

great test scores. and dont worry about debate not being at the national level. i think that you should stress one of your other extracirrics in your essays and resume because SO many kids across the country do debate.

^It’s true that a lot of kids do debate, but i think that debate is one of the best normal school extracurricular activities. Most kids who do debate do not win, so getting recognized on the regional and state level, even if you don’t qualify or place at nationals is a great accomplishment. And getting 2nd place in districts is no small feat (though doesn’t that usually qualify you for nationals OP?)

@coolblues: I have never heard that placing at districts qualifies for nationals, I live in Virginia and debate is just like any other sport, so the Virginia High School League, runs it, so there district, regional, and state competition just for Virginia, by national level I was talking about the NFL, and debating on the national circuit. I am still pretty proud of my debate accomplishments,

@rollercoasters, yeah I know a lot of kids do debate but I would have to say that that is my number one Extracurricular, at least in terms of commitment and talent, I think I might write my essay about my competitive spirit and the rush you get when a debate begins or something. That or an essay about the clothing company I started.

I asked this somewhere else but will bring it up here to, will an extra 40-50 points to my Math score on the SAT to send my superscore above 2300 give me an edge, or have I topped out in terms of the SAT, like will it matter?

^yeah i was also talking about NFL nats, but i thought most states refer to their nfl qualifying tournaments as “districts,” at least mine does.

Is the 2270 your first score, because if it is there is nothing wrong with taking it again if you think that your one sitting score will be higher. Do not do it just for the superscore to be higher. If 2270 is after taking it more than once, i’m not sure it would be worth it to take it again.

the SAT score was my first sitting for the test, I am pretty sure I am taking the SAT again in October, but without that what do you guys think my chances are.

bbbuuummmppp

are you a junior? :/

Wharton (UPenn) - Reach for Everyone
Yale - reach
Cornell (AEM) - im not sure what AEM is, high match
Harvard - reach
Brown - low reach
MIT - low reach
UVa (with Echols?) - low match
Virginia Tech (Safety School) - in fo sho

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/922467-chance-mudblood-hell-chance-back-penn-cornell.html

kosoccer7, would you say I am a low match for UVa with Echols or just UVa, I am kind of banking on getting into UVa, I mean for me at this point, I either want to go to an Ivy League school or UVa, and UVa with Echols would be a pretty sweet deal.

Oh yeah, I am in state for UVa.

bump bump bump

ohh okay i understand. wow i didnt know about the clothing company, thats makes you even more unique, at least more than debate i think

good luck!

How significant does my company have to be before it becomes a benefit in terms of applications, I have just started it, well 5 months in now, and it is slowly growing, after my current batch of clothes are sold I will have close to 600 dollars, that is starting from 200 dollars, It is a pretty small scale operation, I am still trying to find ways to expand but it is hard, anyways will writing about it in an essay still be worth it, I still think it is unique, not many people I know are into the whole designing and selling of clothing at my age.

Considering research, solid APs, etc. I would say a decent chance at MIT, but Yale and Harvard are still a reach as with basically everyone.
Don’t get your hopes up, though, as they will most likely be irrevocably shattered (from experience, I was a similar applicant).

well i’d respond to your question if you ever chanced me back . . .

kosoccer7, I totally did chance you back, sorry if i didn’t go into detail, but I was like the third response to your thread. If you would like me to be a little more in depth just let me know.

forgot about this for a little, anyways bump.

bump bump bump

just thought I would see if there are any new thoughts? Bump

Yes. New thoughts. What is your hook?
