My first semester senior GPA is..

a 2.8 unweighted 3.3 UC weigted GPA.. is that fine? or am i looking at being rescinded..

UCSD uses weighted. You don't have any D's or F's right?

You're looking moderately "safe" for everywhere but Berkeley.

yea no D's or F's.

You are fine. Don't let it slip any lower the second half of the year. Don't blow it now, you've worked too hard to let it all go now. :)

just to clarify, for the UCs that use 3.0 weighted GPA in senior yr (everyone except B/LA), how do they calculate it? is it just like UC GPA? and if so, can u weigh up to 4 honors/APs in senior yr alone?

^Honestly, if you're using up that many honors/AP extra points to stay afloat in senior year, you'd probably be jeopardized in the first place. UCLA's provisional contract wants you to report if you have more than 3 Cs per semester, so I would take 4 to be the maximum weighted semesters you get. Don't test their bottom line, they have 200,000 applications a year, and far too many people enrolled in the first place. Getting into college in no way justifies substandard academics senior year, and it gives a dangerous precedent for your first year (ie. why so many people have low first/second quarter grades in college)

well, i wanted to challenge myself and really learn some good material senior yr, particularly in the sciences
as well as get a good rhythm going into college, like adapting to workload

so do we get 4 senior classes weighted for the non-LA/B UCs?

but i do get your point peppers, good stuff

As far as I have been told (for all UC's excluding UCLA and UCB) it is just your overall weighted gpa (excluding non-academic classes). For UCLA it is your unweighted gpa averaged over the year and for UCB it is your unweighted gpa by semester.

so there's technically no limit to weighted classes, as long as they are AP/honors?

collegemom,

so for UCLA and UCB we need to maintain a 3.0 unweighted then correct?

Sports yes as far as I know no limit...

symphony, yes but for UCLA it is averaged over the whole year and for UCB it is averaged by the semester.

collegemom, where did you get this information. i talked to a ucla rep and she said 3.0 weighted. i have 2.6 unweighted and 3.6 weighted. 3 c's. how do you think that'll affect UCLA and CAl. what about UCSD?

It is 3.0 Unweighted for Cal per semester 3.0 unweighted senior yr for UCLA and wtd for all the rest.

where did you get this info senior mom... how do you know this for sure?

I got a 2.8 first semester my senior year too (had a D in AP Physics). Work really hard during second semester and you'll be alright... I'm here at UCSD right now as a first year, but I had to work my ass off during second semester to pull through.

Good luck.
