My First Time! Chances Please

Okay so I'm a good student, just not a great student. First two years of high school I got straight A's but this year I had a tough schedule and prob. slacked off a little and ended up with 3 A's, 3 B's and a C in IB Higher Level Math. So my stats are:

GPA: 4.356 W
3.76 UW

Rank 16/461
I think it's top 3-4 %

O and by end of senior year i will have taken 16 IB/AP classes

My SAT's aren't that great either

Math: 720
Critical Reading: 660
Writing: 580 =(

SAT subject test

Math II: 730
Spanish: 700

I'm going to take Italian, which I'm fluent in, so hopefully I'll do well, and Spanish again because i got a 5 on AP Spanish and 7 on IB SL Spanish

I think my EC's are actually pretty good though

This summer I am doing an internship at a Neuroscience Institute
Also, I'm doing research at an HBCU Medical School
I play Varsity soccer and my sophomore year was captain of the JV team. (Our team is pretty good too, we've made the playoffs every year -5A)
I play soccer for a Club team too- Captain there and leading scorer
I'm a volunteer soccer coach for little kids and I'm a camp conselor for a Camp with kids with disabilities
I founded and I'm president of the Italian Club at my school
I'm Vice President of Model United Nations - couple best delegate awards
I'm involved in Student Government, and did Boy's State
Science Olympiad
National Honor Society
Beta Club
Key Club
Habitat for Humanity

(yea a lot of community service)

So thanks if you've read this far I was just wondering if you guys think I have a shot at these colleges, I know I'm not a sure thing at any of them. O and if you guys know any other midsized colleges with good academic reputation that aren't too competetive/ intense that would be great.

Vanderbilt
Georgetown
Tufts
UVA- OOS
UNC- OOS

Any response would be great thanks, o and I'm a white male.

Vanderbilt: Maybe
Georgetown: REJECT
Tufts: REJECT
UVA- OOS: REJECT
UNC- OOS : REJECT

Decent GPA, good rank, decent ecs, decent/bad test scores

Vanderbilt - High Match
Georgetown - Reach/Reject
Tufts - Reach/Reject
UVA - High Match/Reach
UNC - Reach/Reject

Try upping your SAT1 scores or take the ACT. Some think the ACT is easier. Also consider putting a safety on there.

gl in college =D

UVA OOS = definitely rejected (not your fault though, getting into UVA OOS is like getting into an Ivy)
UNC OOS = reach
Georgetown = reject
Tufts = reject
Vanderbilt = match/reach

If I were you, OP, I'd apply to more than 5 colleges. Fordham is a good choice, as is BU, Rutgers, etc.

Thanks everyone so far. Yea this isn't my college list, just what I thought would be my reaches. I also think I'm going to apply to Georgia Tech, Boston U, Tulane, and UGA. Thanks again.

I think you can afford to have a bit more hope than people here are saying. I got into both UVA and UNC out of state with a lower GPA. Your ECs are probably better than mine. I did have higher SAT scores, though, but those can be improved. There's no reason you can't get both reading and writing up 50 points. You definitely have a fighting chance at all 5, and I'd predict you'll get into 2 or 3.

I also applied to Tulane and it is really a great option, because of their generous merit scholarships.

Do you live in Georgia? Your complete list sounds good to me. If you live in Georgia, should be fine at GT, UGA. BU and Tulane are good choices. You should get into some of your reach schools as well.

Vanderbilt- reach
Georgetown- reach
Tufts- reach
UVA- OOS- reach
UNC- OOS- reach
Georgia Tech- match
Boston U- high match
Tulane- high match
UGA- match

Best advice: retake SATs

Chance me please. I'll give you an imaginary cookie! ^_^

retake your SATs! Forget about the Spanish SAT II and take a science one instead of Italian (you show an interest in science with your ECs).

As of right now:
Vanderbilt- reach
Georgetown- reject
Tufts-reject
UVA- OOS-reject
UNC- OOS- reject

I wouldn't say outright rejection for Georgetown and Tufts, your SAT's aren't all that far off, I think people on this board are just used to chancing for Ivy's. Your GPA is also not too far off for those two schools, I would still recomend that you retake the SAT's though.

You should really consider trying out the ACT instead of the SAT I. Your writing score is really dismal at schools where the average is above 700 (Tufts, for one).

Make sure, too, that you pick more schools you have a good chance of getting into where you'd be genuinely happy -- just in case!

Thanks Everyone. Yea I live in GA and I'm def. going to retake the SAT, I've been practicing alot this summer and I've been getting over 2100 on a lot of practice tests. And thanks fusiondogg for mentioning Fordham, I hadn't really heard much about it but it seems like a good fit for me.
