My first Year at Boarding school is done, and I feel like sharing=)

Hey Kids!

Well, I am going to say I am a repeat sophomore at boarding school, and I just finished so now I am FINALLY going to be a junior.=)..exciting!!

Trust me, things go by fast when your just trying to survive boarding school, and then before you know it, your graduating.

So anyway, I just wanted to tell you my little story.

So, I wasn't so sure about applying to boarding school in the first place, because they said I might have to repeat. Seriously to me, that was not an option.

But then I got to thinking about it. Public school, I wasn't involved in many things, and my grades were good, but you need more than that.

So I decided to go.

I have to say, it is not like anything you see when you are visiting, looking on the internet, what you hear, or anything. Its different.

The first step is looking on the internet. Lets face it, if the webpage is ugly, you don't really want to go there right? So thats the first test of mine.

Then, I visited the school. It was a very beautiful campus. The rooms were nice, and I was satisfied.

I did this too all five schools I was accepted to. Then I broke them down into area, and finally financial aid.

So anyway, once I step foot on the campus, I was SO nervous. I mean one because I wasn't sure if I made the right choice and two, I was wondering how things would be without my mom.

But, after like....2 weeks...I was good. =)

Once school starts, the jitteryness and nerves go away. Then school is just a piece of cake(okay not really but you know what I mean)

Its not even like your gone alot either because your with your family for long periods of time on vacations.

Boarding school is alright. You meet new people, you create friendships(its really not anything special. But you will remember that person for a long time, especially if you have a roommate) And have the best memories.

When you people who are new to these schools,

JOIN A LOT OF THINGS! trust me. your on the campus 24/7 you might as well join it. I joined a lot of clubs, but ultimately stuck to 3 main ones. I am the Vice President of our Mulitcultural Club(thats not the name but yea) The President of our Art Club, and a member of the MUN. I also play volleyball and basketball.

As a boarder, you will become a leader, its hard not to.

Also, try not to start cliques. I mean if you do....you will have lots of drama.(just a fair warning. your going to boarding school so things get out a lot)

And since most of you are going in to being freshman, you and your class are not going to be that close. But once you get some years in knowing those who survived(you will know what I'm talking about. ) your relationships will be better.

One last thing...Don't try and quit after the first semester. I wanted to, but didnt. Its going to be hard, but you can doo it..

GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR!

Thanks for sharing you experience  what school do you go to?

And the ugly website thing is SO true xD

@love

I am just curious, what schools did you get accepted to, and which one did you choose?

just some questions about your story, if you have time.
do you regret repeating your sophmore year? is it awkward when you see your friends back home and they’re all going to be seniors? was it hard for you to transition into boarding school seeing as most other people had already spent freshman year at the same school?

Well, my policy, as I am on here. I do not tell which school I am at…because its a small school…soooooo…lmao…

But i was accepted to Peddie, Lawrenceville, Millbrook, Brooks, and Canterbury. I didnt go to none of those because I wasn’t really feeling the “preppy” vibe. I’m not a prepster at all.

aaralyn,
“do you regret repeating your sophmore year?”
Well, I did say in that long beautiful story that I was Happy…so connect the dots…lol

“is it awkward when you see your friends back home and they’re all going to be seniors?”
No, its not awkward at all when I see them. When I’m home, they consider me as a senior, nothing less. I’m going to prom with them next year and doing the normal things I would do in senior year back home. i’m going to have 2 senior years=). And my mom always tells me, its not the year you graduate thats important, its where you go to college.

“was it hard for you to transition into boarding school seeing as most other people had already spent freshman year at the same school?”
On the contrary, not everyone was there from Freshman year. Most people came in Sophomore year, so there were a lot of new students just like me. And then there were Freshman. But seriously, the fact that they spent Freshman year at the school has nothing to do with your transition. New students are always welcomed and treated like everyone else. No difference. However, you will meet those few people who already have there cliques and they prefer for you to just stay out. Honestly, you shouldn’t even worry about that at all.The transition into boarding school is more about living away from home, not people who have been there since freshman year. That will happen even if you were in Public or Private school, not only boarding.=)

Thanks for sharing!!!

Great info! I will say that I am cringing at the fact that you swapped your for you’re several times in your post though.

^^ lol. I only do it online. no need to be technical. Im not writing a essay here lol

this is actually the only place, prep admiss, where people care aBOUT SPELLING.

This was SO helpful to me thank you! I’m in literally the exact same situation as you described you were, and I’m having such doubts about going to the school. I’m literally on the last day I can decide if I’m going or not and STILL am unsure which is the right choice; staying at my very good public school where I’m established in many activities, taking very difficult classes, and doing well, or boarding school where theres various new opportunities and great connections to colleges. I’m so nervous about actually going because I’m not going as a freshman (if I go)

What made you finally choose to go rather than stay at your public school?

Well…I see your going to Deerfield… Very good school. I chose to stay because at my school because I have way more opportunities and I know where I want to go to college, I’m just trying to get there by getting the best education possible. Like I said…Boarding schools has a lot of opps. it provides.
You don’t need to go as a freshman. To be honest…The difficult years are Freshman year and Junior year. You shouldn’t be nervous…however thats natural, you can pm me if you want any advice thru out the year at your new school. I would be glad to help.=)

I don’t know why every kid on here wants to go as a freshman. Honestly…its better to go to a public school…(or where ever u were planning on going) and see how it is…Boarding school might not be for you.

Thank-You so so much i just started boarding school in September and i still cry :frowning: iv been trying to be strong and all but i just want to be home right now! :’(
