I skipped a year of French, but I always thought I could handle the extra work. My French teacher is a horirble teacher though. She's never prepared in class and we always end up "learning" by doing pointless things, like talking to our neighbor about our weekend in french except when sometimes she gives us 3 days to prepare for a test thats a HUGE part of our grade. And the tests she gives us are ridiculously hard; they're practice AP Multiple Choice ones and even though she says she grades them on a scale, it doesn't help much. The tests are impossible and are a huge portion of our grade, she doesn't prepare us well enough or give us enough time to let us prepare ourselves well enough, and doesn't seem to know what she is doing herself most of the time. After she grades tests, we never see them again, so we can't challenge her grading, and she doesn't grade them until around 2 months after she gives the test in the first place. She doesn't care what happens to the student because she is moving with her fiance to another state after this school year. I almost feel like she's trying to screw me over. Other students aren't doing very well either, but she doesn't care... except for perhaps 1 or 2 students out of her 90 students altogether who are decent. I'm afraid my GPA is going down the drain solely because of this class. Blahhh.. this is just my vent. I don't know what to do or how to deal.

What grades have you been getting so far?

Straight A’s: 4.0 unweighted until this semester…

So now you have A-?

Hang in there and start to study for those tests before those 3 days. Study every single day on your own. If most of the material comes from the textbook, then use that. If she seems to pull stuff from an AP book, go get one and study every day. With all the resources on the internet, you should have NO problem finding and learning French without this teacher’s “help.” Your teacher sounds worthless but you can still learn French without her if you want to bad enough. My older sisters had a French teacher like yours, and they decided to learn it instead from our dad, whose native language is French. Yeah, that’s maybe not an option for you but you CAN learn the material you need in order to do better on the tests IF you take the initiative.

Bonne Chance!!! ;)

Disgusting. GoogleImage “blue watermelon.”

Just disgusting.

^LOL.

anyway @ the OP I can totally relate to where you are coming from. Believe me when I say this because it is no exageration, my french teacher of three years from French II-Frech IV was a 63 year old woman who hasn’t been to france in 40 years. Believe me you don’t know the meaning of cracked out. The woman thought she brought pop-corn to the french and told us that the jews defeated the nazi’s by trowing wooden shoes (sabot) at them.

you WILL get through this. It’s hard I know but you just have to see the end result that you are working towards (the day you will never have to see that crack ass b*itch again).

Buy AP review books. Now you have the material to study. Checkmate, teacher.

Thanks everybody. We do NOT use a textbook in class, which makes everything harder. Even though I have been practicing with sample AP French MC exams, for some reason I STILL do not feel prepared for the tests that she gives us. I think they’re harder, or something…

light: I have a C now, as does 95% of our class.

“we always end up “learning” by doing pointless things, like talking to our neighbor about our weekend in french”

Actually, this is how you do master a language - by using it to express real ideas. Memorizing grammar and vocabulary lists will not get you very far if you ever need to use a language in real life.

There are scads of exam prep materials out there, as well as some pretty decent self-study materials for French. I’ve heard pretty good things about the Rosetta Stone materials. You should be able to find something at your local public library or nearest chain bookstore.

OMG! Thats how i feel! my french teacher is just HORRIBLE! I passed the AP test already, but my family wants me to stay in french (culture reasons). She is so bad! The french four class is barely starting in the French2 book! They’ve been using that french book forever! Whats more is, this lady says that all french isnt from french is bad! my friend and i speak joual in class and she gives us “extra credit Fs”

vosamim: Lucky you, passing the AP Test already! My French skills aren’t as great as some of the other students because I skipped a level and the mock AP Exams most certainly are NOT as easy for me as they are for the other students. I just don’t feel that I should get a C because of that.

Happymom: True, but that doesn’t prepare us for the tests that she gives us, which do not require speaking and listening, but rather reading comprehension of long passages that oftentimes contain words that I’ve never even heard of. And I don’t feel like it’s preparing me for the AP Exam.

im trying hard to care but the care cup is empty

C[_]

That’s okay. This is a pretty insignificant problem and I was just venting.
