My Freshman-Edge Schedule?

Being an international student, I'm hoping to graduate in 3 years or lesser, so I want to keep my schedules tight. Intended major: Physics. How does this look?

Math 1A - 8AM-10AM - Evans
Linguistics 5 - 10AM-12PM - Giannini -SBS req
Philosophy 12A - 1PM-3:30PM - P&V req
Comparative Literature N060AC - 4PM-6:30PM - A&L req

The classes will be from June 18-Aug 10. Is this too "soft"/"tight" for less-than-two months? Thanks for any input!

A summer session is half the length of a regular semester, so taking four courses during a summer is like taking eight courses during a regular semester in terms of workload. A normal workload is four courses for about 15 to 16 units per regular semester, or two courses for about 8 units during a summer session. But if you plan to graduate in three years, you may need to take higher than normal workloads most semesters.

You have no AP, IB, or A-level credit that allows you to start in a more advanced math course than Math 1A? See the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1305840-freshman-math-faq.html</a> .

Even if you complete Math 1A this summer, the physics major has a minimum of six semester long prerequisite sequence:

(Math 1A)
Physics 7A
Physics 7B
Physics 7C
Physics 137A
Physics 111 (3 units)
Physics 111 (3 more units)

You may be able to shorten the long sequence by a semester if you take Physics 7C next summer.

Do you need any reading and composition courses?

Thank you so much!

I don’t have any equivalents for Math 1A (and my Integral is rusty), so I think I will need to take it. However, I am planning on taking as many courses during this and subsequent summers as I can, so I will definitely go for 7C next summer.

Aand yes, I need the RC courses. Can AP exams taken during the fall semester count towards fulfilling the AP requirements? Also, the website says not, but I have a high score (780) on the SAT II Lit - can they consider that for the RC requirement?

Again, thanks a ton!

PS: Do you not think the above schedule is manageable? I mean, they’re mostly humanities courses, after all…

really? I want to see you manage that schedule. Just take two classes at the most, or just one? To get a feeling of what you are getting into. You can still take more classes next summer if you think you can do it.

Wow, I could drop Comparative Literature. I’d at least like to have 12 units for the summer. Wouldn’t 8AM-330PM leave enough time for assignments?

L&S R&C requirement:
[Office of Undergraduate Advising: Reading & Composition](Reading & Composition | L&S Advising)

whatever man, you should do it then. I don’t know you so you might be up to it

you might take classes pass/no pass, so do it and then if think you can’t make, just switch

Thanks both of you. I’ll go for three classes then, and take the breadth classes for P/NP.

I mean, you can still switch to pass/no pass after the fifth week or something like that. So at least, at the beginning you have some kind of motivation to get an A…

Oh God lol, I didn’t read this part at all:

“You may enroll in up to two courses during Freshman Edge. You will have the opportunity to register for these courses when filling out the online application. (Please note that if you are eligible for summer financial aid,you are required to enroll in a minimum of six units.)”

That ends the debate nicely xD

They’re right, 2 courses should be enough to keep you busy
