He just told me he got an informal acceptance letter from Vandy. They apparently also invited him to check out the campus. Did anyone else get this letter?

^ It's called a likely letter. He's not technically accepted, but he will be later. Not very many people get them.

yeah, he's basically in.

what are his stats? i mean, good for him, but uh.. is there any chance the rest of us will hear before april?

He's probably an under-represented minority. Are they paying his bill to campus? They do a program for those people and offer acceptances around this time.

he's ranked third in my school.. he got deferred from yale and is still waiting from bunch of other prestigious schools. good for him!

He's probably in the top percentage of applicants: he probably has ridiculously high stats and ECs.

They're probably given him a likely letter so that he'll choose Vanderbilt over any other amazing schools he may get accepted to. Propaganda ftw!

I wasnt aware that Vanderbilt mails out likely letters, but who knows...
Maybe he is a finalist in a scholarship program or part of Mosiac?

I just received my letter today...it basically said that Vanderbilt has "approved my application for admission to the freshman class" and that I'll receive an "official admission packet" by April 1. I didn't even realize when I got it that it's a likely letter...

A majority of the letter is an invitation to the Mosaic Multicultural Weekend, but I'm not a URM (half Chinese, half caucasian). I did apply for the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship, but it didn't mention that at all and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with getting a likely letter.

countryangel926, chinese is URM at vandy
I dont think vandy does likely letters other than mosaic

Oh! My bad...at most schools, Chinese isn't considered URM (plus I'm only half). Thanks for the correction.

ZOMG I got in too; it is the mosaic thing too

in case you're curious...

Mosaic Letter means you're accepted to Vandy.

Yeah, a few of my good friends from PAVE got in via Mosaic too. :) I spammed them with congratulatory text messages, facebook comments and "likes".

It's so bittersweet, though, because it's awesome that my best friends got in... but it's going to be depressing if I don't get in, when they know that I have the same stats as them and that they really want me to go to the same college as they are (also the fact that I myself am dying to get in).

don't worry hilsa, Mosaic is not choosing the best students. It's just a completely random drawing that lets 200 lucky kids (out of the 4000 they accept) know they got in and invites them for a weekend to see the campus. If your friends got it and you are just as smart as them, I'm sure you will receive an acceptance letter come April.

Haha. Thanks Obi.

But Mosaic is for minorities.

I'm just plain whitebread.

oooo...lol, in that case, i guess being yellow actually helped me for once.

say, you're from the 941, thats Florida right?

Saratosa by any chance?

Sarasota, yes. Why?
