<p>One of my friends (Chirag) got a degree in Electrical Engineering at 'Johns Hopkins University' with a 4.0 GPA [kids a genius, lol] and is now looking at going to either Harvard or Johns Hopkins med school!!!</p>
<p>Is this a good route to take? Like he said EE wasn't "hard" and it still looks good as an "engineering" degree...but he's kinda smart so he's biased!!</p>

<p>no its a stupid idea. One of the hardest majors, which omits many pre-med courses youll have to tack on later. Electrical engineering is not the sort of degree that facilitates taking orgo for fun</p>

<p>1) general consensus is that EE is one of the harder majors within eng.</p>
<p>2) general consensus also tells us that JHU is perhaps one of the most rigorous schools in america in terms of both academics and gpa-wise.</p>
<p>so if your friend pulled off 4.0 from EE in JHU, your friend IS indeed a genius. </p>

<p>Damn, if this is true, he is very very rare. Electrical Engineering is consider one of hardest engineering discipline (Chemical Engineering is next). Tell him to go graduate school and use his special talent there instead of wasting it away as med student. Most medical students who used to be engineering majors I’ve known, tend to be horrible engineering students and got out as fast as they can.</p>
<p>I had quite a few friends go off to med school. I wish I had. </p>
<p>Many Medical schools are actually starting to accept engineering students who have not met the pre-med requirements. Many other disciplines are also looking at the diverse education engineering gives.</p>

<p>Honestly if you can repeat what he did you probably wouldn’t be here asking us what you should do, you’d be smart enough to figure that out. And you’d probably be too busy studying right now to post here anyway ;)</p>

<p>Just you wait…there are courses that no mater how hard you try, you can’t get an A unless you were a genius like your friend…</p>
<p>Anything is possible, but it’s just not the best route to take and chances are you won’t be successful.</p>
<p>And no, it won’t matter what your major is for med school admissions. You can be an art history major and still get into med school as long as you complete the required courses. Majoring in engineering won’t help; it can only hurt.</p>

<p>Since first semester grades at JHU are “covered” I can give a few EE classes a try and go on from there…</p>
<p>Don’t major in EE or any engineering if you lack any sort of interest in the field. As ken285 said, ANY major will suffice for medical schools and most schools will not be so leniants towards a low GPA, even if it is engineering.</p>
<p>If you must try an engineering and are contemplating premed, try BME.</p>
