My friend got into johns hopkins with a 1080 SAT/19 ACT

Oh No! Please don’t confront me on the internet. Its fine, you don’t have to believe the truth, some people are just naive.

It’s not impossible to be accepted into grade schools will medial grades or test scores. I have below a 1100 SAT and I was accepted into UW-Madison which requires over a 1600 SAT. I think the reason for my acceptance was my essays and recommendations.

I suppose colleges are looking for more than “perfect” students. To even out it’s admissions, colleges probably accept a few unqualified students to balance their statistics.

Just because you have a 4.0 and a 2300 SAT doesn’t mean you’re necessarily ready for college. A lot of people still don’t understand this.

Vehicle, many things you said are not quite correct either. Admission process is a very indeterministic process, or in other words, human administer admission process in a holistic way with no set rules and scores that will determine the outcome. You did not get in because the school wants a few unqualified students to balance the statistics. You got in because something you put in your application had made a connection with one or more of the admission office staff. Also, the 4.0 + 2300 SAT did not get in because the person is not ready for college, it is because, the school is bombarded with so many applicants with good scores and records. Each one has it’s own story and the admission office has to let some down not because they are not qualified but because they don’t have enough room to accept all of them.

…or maybe it was this, which you neglected to mention.

I decided to go through a two year program of general education studies at a community college in order to raise my GPA and save money. I’m in my first year and am receiving a 4.0. Next semester I will be taking honors classes.

SAT and high school GPA are much less important for transfer applicants.

The TS is lying.

Oh yes, lets say point the finger with no proof. Good Job. Why would I lie haha. I’ve been quoted by college confidential and have my picture on the front page. [College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com). Thanks for your insight though.

So you have been quoted means that you aren’t lying about someone with no hook getting in to a University that is extremely selective with scores that are 10+ ACT points below the average?

Ahh yes…I can’t prove it to you. So believe what you want. :)

have a GREAT day!

Stop hating on the kid. Be proud!

She has ended up choosing UMD-College Park.

She applied for laughs, maybe they accepted her for laughs knowing without FA she wouldn’t come. She can stand as the hope to lots of average test score kids that they too can get into a good school.

Even if you know somebody pretty well, you may not know that much about some of their activities outside of school. I don’t necessarily disbelieve the OP’s story, but I think that it’s likely that there’s more to the story.
