My friend is going into engineering.....

She's highly intrested in GT and talks about it all the time. What are her chances? Please understand that I am in no way applying to GT, b/c I am not into math/science! :)

Stats(as far as I know):
White female at rural high school
- Taken the hardest classes

4.0 GPA (UW)
ACT: 22
ECs: NHS community serivce, marching band(9-12), concert band(9-12)

I think your friend needs to retake the ACT or take the SAT and get a much higher score. ECs seem a little weak, also. GPA is fine, but may not mean much if the hardest classes at that school are not AP.

Yes ACT needs to come up. GPA is fine (obviously). GT will take ACT and consider for admission but the 25th percentile was a 25 for last years admission class.

What engineering program is she applying to?

Has she taken sufficient math/science. GT has a pretty high standard for the amount of Math/Science classes required. Bring up the ACT and join another club, she should be fine.

does your friend have any extacurrics relating to science or engineering? that can always help- its good to show that you really have a passion.

g'luck

I'll tell her about the ec's relating to science. She's in Calculus and Chem II now. She's taken Chem I, Genetics, Biology and now Chem II. I am not sure which program she is applying to, but she's going into genetic engineering.

GT only looks at the math and english portions of the ACT- there's not even a place on the application for your composite score. I would definately try to bring those up.
