tell him to write an amazing essay, have it proofread by at least 3 great writers that he trusts, and apply Early Decision.

does it really hurt just to try, u never know maybe the like something about him, he should try to stand out and yes an amazing essay can do that

anything that would make him stand out would have been done by now. chances sound dismal for wharton unless there's somehting spectacular you're holding back from us.

for wharton? around 2%....he has a chance, though, if he has developed a cure for cancer.

...a little chance.

What state and type of school is your friend from? If he is from North Dakota, he would have a far greater shot, than say, the NY suburbs. What is his background? First generation college, minority status, all could make a big difference. From the city of Philly he'd have great chances!

he is from california, asian indian, i dont think he is first generation (parents went to college, 1 in US partly)

You should have your friend read the article in www.northjersey.com. (Google for the exact link - minority Asian University of Pennsylvania) regarding the competitiveness of applications within the Asian community. I never realized that so many applications are lumped under the Asian category, including those from Indian candidates. Standards are even higher due to the competitiveness of the group. I don't think I would advise someone to waste an early decision on such a long shot, considering his other stats. As the article states, someone might be better off applying to schools such as Duke or Dartmouth, where Asian students are not overrepresented and his minority status might still work to his advantage.

could i just not fill in the bubble that indicates that im chinese? after alll, it is optional

lol but clearly if your last name is Wang, or Xu, or Li...it doesn't take a genius to see that ur asian...
