My Friend is Screwed.

i scored 1900 on a diagnostic SAT, and im only a freshman

i agree, shes a dumbass

imagines adcom
Adcom: nice, B+ gpa…wait…wait…holy crap 1200 SAT? holy **** 50% only?
Adcom: Sigh, grade inflation in high school these days
Adcom: oh wow, remedial classes TOO? this B+ is BS…and plagiarism?
Adcom: Grade inflation is def teh LULZ

HOLY CATZ! 1200? That’s unbelievably low. I mean I thought my 1950 was a crap score but 1200…dang.

The median SAT is around 1500 meaning she scored in the lower half of all SAT test takers so that should tell you the types of colleges she should be considering.

Your first advice to her should be to speak with your guidance counselor who has experience with many kids in her situation. Good luck to her.

It’s good to see that College Confidential has sprung into action again (rolleyes).

To the original poster:

Is your friend (I’ll assume this indeed isn’t you) foreign? It’s pretty silly to be taking an exam designed for English speakers if she doesn’t speak the language.

Secondly, are you absolutely certain this score isn’t out of 1600?..Maybe she didn’t understand the scoring system and just blindly stated when you asked “out of 2400?!” “Yep.”

Finally, how do you earn B+s if you’re averaging a 400 on each section of your SAT?!

i got like 1600 in 7th grade what a n00b

Either they were joking/messing around, or they were snobs criticizing her 1200 SAT score.

Honestly, I can’t think of a 4-year university that your friend could get into that would be a better option, financially or academically, than a CC. Community colleges can offer perfectly decent educations, and some states have transfer arrangements for state U’s (though this will depend on her GPA).

She told me she got 400s across the board and no, she isn’t foreign.

I think she bombed the math part because she wasn’t up to par w/ the math. Either that or her teacher sucked. The other two sections…idk. Supposedly she’s a bad test taker but I don’t think that’s the only factor.

^Regardless of the reason, she did poorly, and that limits her options. Is she opposed to a CC?

Dude, I got like a 1500 something in 7th grade. Does she have any conditions like dyslexia?

She plagiarized AND has a terrible SAT score?

She’s screwed, alright.

Tell her to go to a good CC, preferably in a state with a good transfer agreement with a top public. Then prove herself by getting amazing grades in all the courses she’d need to transfer.

I dont know where she lives but try Dean College. They are great at working at kids who have less than stellar hs performance. It is a beautiful campus with a really caring staff. Good luck

My child scored a 1080 (two scores) on his SATs and was accepted to SUNY Albany, Plattsburgh, Cortland, Oswego… The average SAT score is 500. Average. The subject of the original post is NOT dumb.

1200 converts to a 16 or so ACT, which isn’t even enough for a CC. And 500 is NOT average, it may be the average subject score.(making 1000 average(CR + M))

firsttimelisa, the “subject of the original post” was referrring to THREE scores not TWO. If he followed your way of looking at things he would have to get on average 540 Math 540 Reading to get 1080 and somehow score a 120 on Writing which is impossible.

500 for each section.

The OPs friend couldn’t have gotten more than 400 per section. 500 would be ~1500, which is still not good, but better than 1200.

No offense guys but really…enough with the “is she a dumbass” remarks. Some people may not be acdemically adept as all of you. Granted, a 1200 is far below average but grow up. sheesh.
