My friend asked me yesterday to put his chances up for wharton. i think his chances are slim, but he has a huge hook.

asian male
attends top 20 us boarding school
sends many grads to top schools (8-10 penn every year)

GPA
Freshman Homeschooled
Sophmore 3.7 GPA UW, 1 honor class,
Junior 3.85 GPA UW, AP Chinese (5)
Senior Schedule
AP Economics, AP Biology, English 4, Calculus, AP physics

Testing

ACT 22
SAT 1780 (he's probably retaking them is october)

recs: solid
essay: decent

ECs

President of Jazz Band
100 Hours community service
Jv tennis 10
Varsity Lacrosse Manager 11??
Leadership in the business world west at Wharton. (this is the hook he has)
(LBW greatly improves his chances (if any), the past year 47 out of sixty students applied ED to wharton and 38 got in, so can you chance him taking into consideration this hook?)

That SAT score is for anybody, even a URM, let alone an Asian, to have any chance at Wharton. I understand that the LBW may help, but I don’t think it’s a HUGE hook. I would imagine that most unhooked whites and Asians who get in at Wharton have a 2250+.

I assume this ‘my friend’ is you actually?

I think the standardized test scores would negate the hook.

Sorry to say, but LBW is not a hook – it has zero bearing on the admissions process and is not a form of demonstrated interest.

Those ACT/SAT scores are extremely, extremely low for Wharton, and the GPA is decent but not enough to compensate for much else. That applicant would likely get rejected.

LBW is a program to generate revenue (for Wharton). Not a hook. It’s hard to get in being an Asian male with 1780 SAT score.

I swear to get an ACT of 22 you would need to have your hand blown off in the middle of the test…

due to his SAT/ACT scores, he would probably be one of the 9/47 that doesn’t get in, my condolences. :)

I’m primed to believe your “friend” is you.

Very low scores are going to hurt him

@saints, if you want to chance me click on my thread i posted
so tell me who is the other person

Definitely rejected. Anyone telling you otherwise needs to get real someday.

^ You never know. Maybe the guy is a big-time developmental case.
