My Friend's Chances at SEAS

<p>Hello, I dont know much about Columbia and my really good friend that is a junior is thinking about applying ED at Columbia for the engineering, i was hoping some of you could evaluate her chances</p>

<p>Female/Middle Eastern (Iran)

SAT I: 2250 (or higher)
SAT IIs: Spanish 800, Match IIC 800, Chemistry 770
ACT: 35
APs: Calculus BC 5, Spanish 5, US History 4, Chemistry 5, World History 3</p>

<p>Varsity Swim & Dive
Varsity Cross Country
Varsity Track and Field
Won top places at Track and Field Regionals and State</p>

<p>Many volunteer organizations, over 800 hours of community service</p>

<p>a few leadership positions</p>

<p>other than this not much more. Does middle eastern count as minority?</p>

<p>She is worried she doesnt have many ECs, how much will this hurt her?</p>

<p>Her scores and grades are absolutely superb. No worries there.</p>

<p>Her community service is also impressive. As you pointed out, a lack of EC's may be a problem, but she is on 3 athletic teams and seems to do very well on them. </p>

<p>I think her chances, especially for engineering, are very high. Being a female will help.</p>
