My Friend's Chances...

My friend right now has only got straight A's, except for 1 B freshmen year...
As a sophomore he has a 4.33 W....He's taking AP Euro and HL Pre-Calc
Next Year he will have 3 AP's and 2 Honors (Toughest schedule possible)....He should get A's in all classes
On the PSAT i don't know his exact score, but he was in the 99th percentile...which should be around 220-240
EC's: Mock Trial, AcaDec, Cross Country and Swimming (Both sports varsity for all 4 yrs), Key Club, Relay 4 Life, Recycling Club, Sign Language Club, CSF, and National Honor Society.

He really wants to go to Stanford or the Ivy League, so what are his chances.

Not enough info. Class rsnk is essential. How competitive is the HS? Is 1 AP soph year wll he can take? Is he good enough at either sport to play in college? Unless the school is super competitive he's just looking like an average Stanford applicant now, and 10% get in.

I'd say he has a great chance. COmpetitive for Stanford. I don't know, because his SAT score wasn't posted. But I'm guessing if he got 220-240 PSAT then it's an easy 2200-2400 SAT. Therefore, COmpetitive! GO stanford!!

He will be top 5 out of about 750 students and the only ap's offered to sophomores are psych and euro and he had no room for psych. He is very good at both sports. Swimming he does club too and he is the best or second best on our varsity team and our school is the best at sports. Cross Country he is very fast and he is working on getting 15 min in a 3 mile race....I dont know how that compares to college runners but that seems very fast to me.

that is good, but not good enough. It is good enough to qualify for ccs, but not enough to place.

Even if your friend is not recruited, academic and athletic performance at that level is unusual. However, I feel that sometimes non-recruited athletes don't get due recognition for their achievements (if nothing else, Varsity sports are exhausting and leave little time for anything else). That being said, I believe he is an above average applicant even for schools like Stanford. Depending how close the SAT is to 2400, he may be a very very strong candidate. But still, no guarantees. Admissions is just too competitive.
