My genius [or not so genius] plan...

Okay, so when I started college, I had some adjustment issues [crying was involved, but it's miles behind me now] and for my first semester I have almost no classes relating to my major [Biology], but I'm filling like, 6 graduation requirements. The way I figure it, I'll probably graduate in December instead of May [unless I finagle my schedule around, which is probably possible]. I'm planning on going to grad school and I'm assuming that they don't take people starting Spring semester [or do they?] so I've decided that, provided my plan works, I'll graduate in December and try to get an internship or see if I can get involved in some sort of research project until the Fall semester starts.

I guess what I'm asking is, will this work? Heck, does it even make sense? And if not, am I completely wasting my time?

You can definitely start during any semester. It doesn't have to be fall.

Really? For some reason I always assumed that I had to start in the Fall.

IT depends on the program.

Most schools have options for students to start in the spring, not just the fall. If you don't have any serious reservations about ending your senior year early or leaving your friends, than I would take the opportunity to intern or begin working earlier so that you can earn some extra money before grad school starts.

Either way, it might be best to begin grad school with a full year ahead of you in the fall, as opposed to starting just one semester and having to break over the summer (unless you take summer classes, but that's a matter of personal preference).

People do this kind of thing all the time. The timing for graduate admissions really depends on the particular program, but you'll be able to work it out just fine.

Ah, thanks, I wasn't completely sure if what I was planning was doable, but now that I know it might be, I feel a bit better.

@govman - I like that idea of interning or getting a job inbetween semesters, especially since I'd feel odd starting in January. Although, I am worried about, if I'm not in school for a whole semester, forgetting some of what I've learned.
