Hi, I am currently a freshmen in high school and my GPA weighted is a 3.5. I’ve always wanted to get into NYU or UVA. My two dream schools. However, regarding my current GPA as a freshmen I get this feeling that I won’t be able to get it even if I do get A’s and B’s on my next three years in high school. Do I have any luck ???
Same boat I finished freshman year with about a 3.6 but I got a 4.0 sophomore and junior years to offset it. Colleges will notice a strong upward trend
Good job picking yourself back up! Where do you plan to attended college?
Still a junior so starting college visits and GC meetings now… but honestly from what I’ve heard from them, I don’t think my freshman gpa is gonna be the reason I don’t get into a top school (not ivy league stanford top, more like schools just underneath). I think my 2 most recent years and a good SAT will be considered more. ECs are gonna be the issue haha. But don’t let a low freshman year discourage you because colleges will see what kind of student you are from how you improve!
UVA is actually on my list too
You’re only a freshman! Don’t worry. You have two whole years to bump up your GPA, and getting all As will definitely do this. I know someone who got into NYU with an 86 average (school doesn’t do 4.0 scale). I only know a few people who’ve gotten into UVA, one of whom now attends and was the valedictorian of our school, so I can’t really help on that one, but, you still have 2 years to improve your GPA and haven’t taken the ACT/SAT yet. Study hard for that and it can really increase your chances at either school. Also, NYU LOVES students who interact with them and show their interest, so go to any events in your area and try to visit campus if you can!
Good luck in your college search! My little sister is also a freshman now and wants to go to either UMiami or NYU so she might see you there
