<p>I'm a pre-psych major, incoming freshman, and I originally wanted to take Psych10 to A) get a better feel of UCLA's psych department, and B) see if psychology is really what I want to major in.</p>
<p>Thing is, I already took an intro to psych class at a community college last summer, (got an A and everything), and it filled the prereqs for the psychology major.</p>
<p>So problem: I'm still deciding if majoring in psychology is right for me. I wanted to do more research by actually taking the Psych10 class, but now I can't because it's a repetition of the same class (which is what all the orientation counselors told me)... And so I don't know how psych here at UCLA is-- I'm sure the psych10 class here will be a lot more comprehensive and a lot more difficult than the class I took at the end of my junior year. </p>
<p>I won't be able to take any more psych classes my freshman year, since Psych100A and 200A(?) must be taken sophomore year. But won't it be really difficult for me to take Psych100A if, well, I haven't had a refresher course and if the last time I was learning about psych was 2 years before that?</p>
<p>So give me some advice. Should I sit in on the lectures or something? Buy the textbook and study it myself? I really don't want to, but I don't know what to do.</p>
<p>u can take psych 10, just whatever grade u get wont have any effect on ur gpa. i unintentionally did this...i took psych 10 at a community college and didnt realize it would give me credit for psych 10 at ucla..so i retook it, worked my butt off for an A, all to realize it didnt matter. i was p i ssed but yeah...thats what happened. i really enjoyed the class though!!!!!</p>
<p>yeah, you're probably just worrying too much. and you have plenty of time to decide to switch majors - you don't have to know exactly in your very first year.</p>
<p>you could opt out of sending your community college transcript to ucla if psych was the only class you took. If you have many transfer courses, then I guess you can't take psych 10 for credit.</p>
<p>so im guessing you saw a big difference between your community college psych class and the one at UCLA, right? but was it worth it to take psych10? (i haven't heard so much about the class, only that you probably shouldn't take it the fall quarter of your freshman year)</p>

<p>its very doable. when i was in HS 2 years ago rising junior, i told my GC i wanted to try UCLA summer sessions just to see how i'd do. she told me to take psych 10 and sure enough half of the kids there were in HS.. anyway i worked pretty hard but got an A and this 2 years ago. it was also summer, so 6 weeks accelerated with a quiz andor test EVERY class. i imagine its even more doable in regular quarter.</p>
<p>thesuperjlai: i loved psych 10! and actually i did take it 1st quarter freshman year with 19 units hahha. i got an A, but it was a very very hard earned A cause i completely underestimated the difficulty of the class. i figured its psych 10, cant be that bad and messed up the midterm..BUT aced the final. it was 100000% different from community college psych and i highly recommend the class. loved the videos we saw...i just looooved going to that class it was so fun for me, but my friends said otherwise.. 100A is psychological stats and supposedly very bland (im taking it in the fall) so im not sure if that would give u a good idea of what psych is all about.</p>
