OK i am a freshman, so try not to rag on me or something if im asking something obvious and am oblivious to it or am just plain annoying; im sure not trying to be. Ok, today in class me and a bunch of friends were talking about what maths we take at our school. And they said that if we took only geometry and not geometry and algebra 2, we take algebra 2 as a soph., trig. and analytical geometry as a junior, and pre.calc. as a senior. To me that sounded weird. So i went on our school website to find the real curriculam and here is a link.

It says as a sophmore i can take algebra 2 or pre calc. which seems kind of strange to me that i could skip algebra 2. But then again maybe thats just for people doubling up as freshman. But would it be a possibility to skip algebra 2 and go into pre calc.? How much algebra 2 you need for pre Calc.

Our curriculam is kind of weird, since we take physics before chemistry.

i guess what i want to know, is about the math classes. Could i actually skip algebra 2 and go straight into pre calc.?

Also, would it be wise to double up as a sophmore in physics and chemistry?

I have never heard of someone skipping Algerbra 2 completely as it teaches things you must know and will not be retaught in pre calc. I have only heard of skipping trig. Though if you taught yourself that would be a different story.

What type of classes are your chem and physics. My friend is taking both IB Physics and IB Chem but the challenge is doing enough Lab Hours for both at HL.

btw, at my school we do Geomatry, Algerbra2/trig, IB Math Studies, then either AP Calc or IB Higher Math.

i wouldn't skip algebra 2 if you have never taken it before. it looks like you would take two math classes if you were to do the higher level courses. altho since you're in IB how come in the higher levels they are AP classes? anyways... if you are really good in math i would say take both geometry and algebra 2. and why would you double on physics and chemistry? wouldn't you still take physics this year and chemistry next year? if you did double next year, would you have a science class this year? sheesh your school seems so much nicer about scheduling. i want to take a french class even tho i have spanish and will continue spanish and test for it in IB and they look at me like i'm crazy. they would have died if i asked to do two math classses even if i have already done higher math in an outside program. oh and you can self-teach the algebra 2 but if you do that you might as well just take the 2 math classes like the site says.
-i had physics as a freshman too.
