I hate that as much as I want to be competitive as other CC'ers on here, I can't be because of my school. I live in a small southern town that has never heard of "calculus" and "physics" seems like. I want to go to a good university school, probably up north where there is more variety. I feel like I will NEVER get into any college because of my school.
We can't get ahead with summer classes, we can't take DE classes until 11th grade, We can't take a foreign language until 11th grade and even then its only latin or spanish. UGH and we didn't have the chance to take high school classes in middle school. There are so many stupid required classes and prerequisites I swear!!!

This is what I planned for next year (sophomore year) and it still isn't competitive like you guys:

First Semester
AP biology
Honors Chemistry I
Honors Algebra II
Honors English II (req)
Mandarin I (begged to take an online class after school on my own)

Second Semester
AP Biology (one of the few freshman that took bio honors)
AP Environmental Science (took earth science honors)
AP Psychology
Honors Civics and Economics (req)
Mandarin II

Summer: Pre calculus because I am paying the community college to take a class.

Dude that is more rigorous than I did and I go to a top 75 public school. You’re fine. Quit whining. Be happy you get an education.

Lol exactly.^

Are you kidding me? >…<

I didn’t even have the opportunity to take any AP’s my sophomore year…

Well it wasn’t easy!!! My dad and I went to central office and went against the school board. We won but now there is a lot of pressure. It was a 7 month process to get those AP classes in my schedule because I’m willing to go the extra mile.

4 AP classes in one year? Wow. I only took 5 in my entire high school career :D

Don’t stress over the rigor of your schedule–it’s plenty hard. Enjoy yourself the next three years. They go by fast.

ur schedule is fine, 95% of sophomores at my top public school have schedules way worse than that
btw be happy that ur high school isn’t competitive competitiveness really sucks

mmmmm thanks for the insight guys! If I had posted this in prep school chances they would of totally ruined my confidence.

Well I’ll quit my whining now

I’m sorry but, are you freaking kidding me? 4 AP’s as a Sophomore and you’re whining? I think you just want attention, I’m sorry.

Far better than any schedules at my school. Almost no people double up on sciences at any time, never mind sophomore year. Not to mention that anyone that takes an AP as a sophomore takes just one, never more. Usually AP Euro or AP World, with the occasional AP Bio.
Also, my school doesn’t even offer AP Environmental Science.

I only have 3 AP classes guys…

Hell man, three APs and you’re complaining? I can only take one in my sophomore year. Granted, I don’t go to a top school. Haven’t had the chance to take any this past year as my school simply doesn’t offer them. I’m just stocking up on honors classes.

Colleges just want to see what you’ve done with what you were given. If you want to expand your schedule, take a course this summer. Colleges have them. Summer@Brown, Cornell’s Pre-college, Duke’s summer program, (I got into all 3 but chose summer@Brown.), Harvard and Yale also have a summer session. Just do your research. Even non-ivies have them. (Vanderbilt, NYU, etc.)

Brown has over 300 courses to choose from. If you really want to help diversify your education and schedule take a course this summer.

Do what you can with what you’re given.

Three APs as a Sophomore is quite a lot. In my school, most Sophomores have one. Consider yourself lucky. Besides, why would you want more than 3 in your 10th year? That’d be a little too much. If you are really interested, there are always ways for the dedicated students. You can easily self study.

My school doesn’t even have APs, so stop complaining! But my school is a rather different arts school; I am taking 3 duel enrollment classes as a freshman.

I don’t care too much about “impressing colleges” I am strong and have a genuine love for every subject except for math. That pressure I put on myself just because I want to.
