My highschool won`t send transcripts. College requires them sent directly from HS. What should I do?

I went to salinas high school. I want to transfer to ASU online into their software engineering or computer science program. My highschool will not send out transcripts and does not do online transcripts and are not on the list of schools with parchment or any other online service. They just leave it sealed and say that its official this way, but ASU wont accept it unless its directly sent from the HS. What should I do? I am thinking about acquiring the transcript physically from the school, and writing the school`s return address, but this seems a bit risky. Any suggestions?

You take an envelope and a bunch of stamps to the high school. You address the envelope to ASU, and you hand it and the stamps to the administrative assistant at the guidance office. That person puts the sealed transcript inside the envelope that you have provided, seals the envelope, and puts the school’s return address on the outside. Then the two of you figure out how many stamps it needs, and put the stamps on it. The administrative assistant puts it in the out-going mail from the school along with the other correspondence.

If you want to get fancy, you bring a pre-paid fedex or other overnight delivery envelope with you, and you help the administrative assistant fill out the To and From addresses before sealing your transcript inside.

If you are lucky, the school has a stash of its own envelopes for you to use that have the address printed on them. Then you only need to address the envelope and put the stamps on it.

Your achool probably has this policy because they don’t have a big enough budget to pay for all the random postage, and their office staff doesn’t have time to address everything.

My kid’s HS charges $5 for each transcript per person and they send it manually. Don’t know why they don’t do it electronically, since they had to upload grades electronically for the Common App. They won’t even send it out until June 22 and the deadline for most schools is July 1. A ton of parents likely will line up at the school district office on June 28-29 and order another copy to make sure they have a transcript in hand just in case the mail system fails.

Thanks! I didn’t think about bringing my own envalope and stamps, and just asking for them to mail it that way. I’ll try that!

Can the hs provide you with their own letterhead envelope? That makes it even more official. I agree, whether you drop it in their mail or they do, it seems you said you have the sealed copy.

USC needed my official transcripts too. But my school (in Mexico) doesn’t do the “officialness” like they do so here. I reached out to the admissions counselor at USC and they actually let me scan my original high school transcript and have them use that!
Reach out and see it the school will help or take something else…
