My housing at BU for SMG

Hello everyone!
I’m still undecided about my housing, I would appreciate some suggestions.
These are my choices at the moment:

1)575 Commonwealth Avenue
2)Warren Towers (700 Commonwealth Avenue)
3)Shelton Hall (91 Bay State Road)
4)Bay State Road brownstones
5)The Towers (140 Bay State Road)

1) It’s the closest and it’s still populated by freshmen (for what I’ve heard).
2) Very popular choice among freshmen students, close, but not very good-looking but a little messy-looking in my opinion, I’ve even heard that there is strict control in there.
3)Close to SMG, not messy. What about freshmen?
4)Nice-looking, close, calm but isolated!
5)Close, but I don’t like the fact that it has single-sex floors.

I haven’t put West Campus cause it’s a little far and I know how lazy I can be in the morning. I may reintroduce it anyway.

What about specialty residences?
I’ve put the ones of SMG (Warren (B), Management House, Shelton), but do you recommend them? I would still prefer a more “diverse” housing.

I have been to an Off-Capus reception and every student there was from West and attending CAS. They all said West was superb but that seemed quite unreliable advice.
I would like to even hear from students that have experienced other housings!

I would recommend you apply for SMG specialty housing. While it is very unlikely you would get placed in the SMG House or on the Shelton floor, you can easily apply for the SMG floor in Warren. I lived there as a freshman and it was a great experience. At first I was worried about being stuck with all-SMG kids and not meeting other people, but you’ll have plenty opportunities to make friends from other schools. What I loved about the SMG floor is that we were all in the same classes and we always did homework and test reviews together - I think it really helped me academically. You’ll get to meet tons of other SMG freshmen because they like to come and hang out on the SMG floor. Basically everyone in the freshmen class in SMG will become a friend-of-a-friend to you.

Concerning your other choices - 595 has private bathrooms, but the rooms are triples with lofted beds, which I think kind of sucks and I never liked the layout of these rooms. The elevator in that building freaks me out. But it will be right next to the new dining hall, which is pretty cool.

Shelton - not good if you’re looking for a ‘freshman experience’ since most of the people in Shelton are older. There will be some freshmen too, but you won’t generally get to know that many people on your floor.

Brownstones - depends which one you get. Some are not renovated and they’re gross. Other are super nice. If you don’t mind the ‘isolation,’ it’s a pretty sweet place to live.

Towers are kind of best of both worlds, not that loud and messy, but still pretty social.

I would definitely recommend a specialty floor! I lived on one in Warren for communications and it was an awesome experience.

Ok thanks to you both Hanita and star I’ve just re-submitted and changed my choices in favour of specialty housing.
I made warren my first choice for now. I still have some questions in fact.

What do loud and messy mean?
In the sense that there are always a lot of annoying sounds and people don’t sleep at night?
Does messy mean that there is so much people that I could get myself lost?
Maybe It just means that there is such a lotta people that I won’t be able to find a spot for myself and calm down for a sec for a sleep break or to relax.

I haven’t visited so I don’t have any idea of that messyness I heard people talking about.

There’s definitely more noise in Warren, but it’s not like there will be constant screaming and you’ll never be able to sleep. I lived there last year, and yes, it was noisy at some points, but I didn’t have much of a problem. It really depends on your roommates.

I’m not sure what the other user meant in terms of messiness, but there’s usually always a lot of people around and it can get crowded, like in the dining hall.

All in all, the experience living there was worth it, even though it’s a typical freshman dorm.

Freshman year my room was right outside the common room, and people used to hang out there and talk into the early morning hours so I sometimes had to get out of bed to tell them to quiet down and shut the door.

This year I’m living at the end of the hallway and I haven’t had any problems with noise so far. So it really depends.

The bathrooms can get ugly over the weekend; they get cleaned Friday morning and then not until Monday afternoon/Tuesday morning, so by the end of the weekend it can get gross with hair in the showers and paper towels on the floor. But it’s not that bad overall and you get used to it.

I can honestly recommend Warren for anyone who’s a freshman, even as a sophomore I can’t complain all that much.

what about West campus? I got into CAS but I’m thinking dorming in West Campus. Sadly I’m international and I won’t have the chance to visit before the last orientation so I may have to choose a dorm based on the internet. Warren seems too suffocating. Too crowded, noisy etc. West seems to have a more capusy feel, more green, that would allow me to take a small walk to clear my mind for example. Also, west is next to FitRec that I plan on visiting at least 3 times a week. I may need to walk 10-15min to class each day, but I love walking. On a snowy day, there’s the possibility of taking the bus. The dining hall in the best from what I’ve read. I spoke with a sophomore that lives on West and is also in CAS and told me please don’t laugh that the girls are ,generally speaking, more pretty on west campus. haha is this true?
I have a hard time choosing between Warren and West. I’m pretty sure I want west, but this voice in my head keeps telling me “in warren you can wake up 5 min before class” ! please help
