So i live in Brazil and go to a british school here. We take IGCSEs and IBs. All standard. I was wondering if i was wanting to go to a good university in America (such as UCLA, Yale etc ivy league) i need more than good IB and IGCSE grades. I heard about gpa and that it is the average grades you get in your school report. My school report is from 1 to 10, 10 being the highes my average is about 7 which is pretty average nothing good. But the thing is i did not think those grades mattered so i didnt try too hard because it does not really prove your capabilities most of that report grade is homework and some tests. I got all As on my IGCSEs and if i get good IBs will i be able to go to a good university? Or will my report gpa dissapoint me? thank you in advance

You need to contact the international admissions office each of the places that you would like to apply to, and find out which things matter for international admissions. Remember that each college and university in the US sets its own policy about this sort of thing. Don’t be surprised if each of them tells you something different.

You also should have a nice long chat with whoever it is at your school who helps students make their college lists. Your own teachers and counselors should be able to give you some advice about this. Another option would be to pay a visit to the closest office of EducationUSA. There are several in Brazil https://www.educationusa.info/Brazil The counselors there should have good ideas for you.

Wishing you all the best.

Thank you for the reply happymomof1, ill be sure to do everything you have advised above. I am still in my first year of IB so i still need to work hard for grades and i will be sure to give more care to my school grades and not just external exams. Once again thank you so much for the reply and help.
