My illogical sat essay on privacy.

Should people make more of an effort to keep things private?

Modern society have implanted into people's heads that honestly equals the expression of one's every inclination and impulse. That is completely wrong. Everyone is entitled to their own privacy, however not everyone is able to control the privacy of others. This is a problem that is reliant on the value of individuals. Everybody should make an effort to keep some things private - because you are never sure what other people think.

As a person utterly protective of her own privacy, most of the time I am disgusted by those who flaunt their own personal information in public. A lack of self respect and display of personal information will lead to unfortunate consequences. With the advancement of technology, social media such as facebook and twitter have become popular among teenagers. An incident that happened last year have taught me to always keep things private. Someone put up a picture of a girl drunk at a party on the internet, with the location, name and her personal information on display universally. Nothing become of it until a week later, where she was expelled from school and committed self suicide. This example shows that people are not desperate to see other people's personal information, and this type of behavior is unwanted. The actions of that girl have put her school's reputation and her life in jeopardy. A pedophile could simply find her and rape her because he/she can.

Us human beings have a biological nature to the desire to keep things private. A recent survey showed that, when asked if he/she wants to be naked in public, 80% said no. There were 2 main responses - 1. I feel uncomfortable and ashamed. 2. Other people will feel uncomfortable and ashamed. This study reflects that it is in our nature to want to have privacy, and frowns upon others who do not. It is against our biological nature not to.

As I mentioned before, technology and the advancement of society have promoted the idea that "privacy is not important". We can post our most recent update on twitter, follow famous people around like dogs, anything because we are free. This only means that we should only make more of an effort to keep some things private - deep down, you know you want to; deep down, you know other want you to too.

Ok as best I can tell this is your thesis: " Everybody should make an effort to keep some things private - because you are never sure what other people think."

So you are supposed to be demonstrating in your essay that people should keep their details private because they cant know how other people will react to them.

ex1: some girl commits “self suicide” because there was a picture of her drunk on the Internet. Doesnt seem to have anything to do with what other people think. Nor does speculation that a pedophile could rape a college student.

ex2: Survey data showing most people would prefer their privacy. However that doesnt reenforce you thesis.

Conclusion: “you really want to keep stuff private, right?”. Once again you are not reenforcing your thesis.
