Hey. I played an Chinese traditional instrument called GuZheng and I want to submit an art supplement through Common Application.

It asks for a letter of recommendation but my teacher can only write one for me in Chinese. What should I do? Should I have her use some organization to translate it, seal both of the letters (original and English one) and send them to my colleges?

Please advise.

Thanks.

I would email the admissions department at the colleges you are applying to. This is just my guess, but I would think that as long as it's a reputable translator (ie, not you or your parents), it would be fine.

I believe you can even translate it yourself, if you can. As long as you send both copies, your fine. It's not like no one speaks chinese... It'll be very easy for them to confirm the two letters.

Well, the reason why I recommended a reputable company, was though it costs more money, colleges won't doubt it, and want to check it. If they do want to check it, they need to find someone who can read Chinese, and while that isn't very difficult, it still burdens them. In my opinion, the applicant should get it translated herself and save them the trouble.

Use a certified translation company. It is the most secure and possibly the best solution.
